I apologize if this a redundant topic, but I did a search and could only find old info on this subject.

I'm starting soon (first 121 job) and was looking into getting a flight case, but I'm also thinking that EFB's are on the way and I may not need it. What advice do you guys have on this subject, and what would you recommend to carry my headset, presumably a tablet, and anything else I can't think of at the moment?

Thanks and please be nice if I'm not following proper protocol posting here.

No need for a flight case. All aircraft have ship sets for now and EFBs will be rolling out next month. There are tons of options for personal bags. Lots of guys carry combo bags that are part cooler, part flight bag. Check out luggageworks, strong bags, and travel pro. I'm sure there are several other options as well. If you're near a crew outfitters, you can check out many different brands/models in person.

No need for a flight case if you are coming to Skywest. A nice bag that you can keep your headset, and whatever with you, plus a lunch bag and a sturdy suitcase is all you need.

Off duty, you might get more days off/month on the ERJ. Maybe.

Other than that I'd pick based on where you want to be based. If that's a wash then I'd probably pick the ERJ, although your seniority progression will go generally go faster on the CRJ.
Thanks. It's a lot to think about. Delta benefits, bases, seniority. Wish I had a crystal ball.

The ERJ is way more advanced and for me, being typed on it opens up other opportunities that the CRJ will not. Also ive got a fridnd that flew the crj for skwest for 4 years and a few months ago switched to the erj. He says its a world of difference. He isnt working his but off by doing multiple legs per day. He does 2 legs 3 days a week
. SEA -MCI-SEA. He has lot more free time and a better QOL than he had on the crj
Yeah, sounds like longer trips, fewer legs would be easier. Nice problem to have.

CRJ = United, Delta, American and potentially Alaska benefits.

ERJ = Useless United benefits because every vacation pass is going to bump you.

I still can't believe that hardly anyone ever mentions that fact when new hires ask which plane to pick. I'm on the CRJ and I live in an ERJ domicile and this is 100% of the reason I haven't bid the ERJ.

Yep. Really good reasons to choose the CRJ! Are you able to get on most of the non-rev flights you want?

"Vacation" benefits are cool, but is it really that serious? I mean as a regional pilot how many "vacations" do you really plan on taking.

Everybody on here dogs the ERJ. I dont see anything wrong with picking the CRJ in hopes of upgrading quicker or it having the base you want, but theres also nothing wrong with enjoying the plane you'll be spending 60-90 hours a month in. It's almost like your saying if United called to hire you, you wouldn't fly for them because its hard to non-rev on your "vacation".
