Nothing official yet, but without the PDX Alaska flying we only have the occasional UAL RON in PDX, so there is a good chance the base will go all 175.

Our vacation policies still suck. You have to submit how much vacation you want per day a month before the bid. So this month I used 7 vacation days at 2.5 per day (17.5 hours) But I have no idea how much PBS is going to require for my line. Since PBS required 87 hours this month, I now had to work 70 hours in 23 days. I missed my layer one trips by a couple hours and had my bid drop to layer 5 by 1 hour. Would I have preferred to take an extra hour of vacation and kept my higher layer trips? Yep but I don't have that option because I have no idea what the hell PBS is going to require with our lovely global solution.

We need either a set amount of hours in our bid, (even a defined range would be fine) or PBS needs to globalize in reverse seniority. It sucks to see all my trips awarded to less senior pilots because PBS required less hours when it got down to their bid. Vacation is pointless if you have to just work extra hours the rest of the month. Of course this all just boils down to proper staffing which will never happen.

And even if I could use less vacation hours by bidding reserve, I would never volunteer for the mental abuse that is our reserve pool.

Serious question here...how do you know that? I got completely shafted in my last bid (all PN/CN) and have no idea what PBS went through in terms of how close I came to getting some trips...

Are you talking about day at a time vacation? Do you also get to bid a whole week of vacation more than a month in advance? Wouldn't it just be better to always use 4 hours per vacation day then?

Yeah I was wondering if there would still be CRJ based crews there after the transition. Besides SEA and PDX does it look like any other bases will go all 175 or for the mean time does it look like the other CRJ bases should hold up? Thanks for the info

well sure.... but if you want to use up less vacation time............

If you can get by only using 25 hours of vacation for a 10 day block, why use up 40 hours?

the problem is like he said, you have to select your days of vacation AND assign a pay value to them BEFORE you know 1. how many lineholders and reserves there will be that month, and 2. how many hours the average line will be.

so even the guys that use reserve to strategically bid vacation, what do you do when the month you decided to vacay has 0 reserve (as is common in DEN).

Is there a way to tell what the minimum line credit needed is? I've been getting the trips I want for the most part but I want less hours. I just don't know how to bid for less.

bid min credit.

but that's like trying to drop trips. doesn't work at this company because staffing is never where they claim it should be.
