Hey guys what are some of the reserve rules? I'm starting initial for Skywest in a few days. I've heard nothing but awful things about Skywest reserve. I came from a regional with some of the worst work rules in the industry. So I can't imagine it would be that bad. Just curious how the reserve rules stack up compared to them.

Reserve sucks anywhere. If your commuting it really sucks. Log into SAPA and they have a reserve survival guide learn it. The good thing about here is you can see who is on reserve and who has been assigned and how you look on the list. PBS is a joke here, but everyone here just ignores it and plays along.

Awesome. I'll do that. Trying not commute anymore was another reason for the move. I'll put up with a lot more crap if I can drive to work.

Where did you get the upgrade numbers? And please don't say the DVR.

Depending on your temperament, previous employer abuseIf and if you live in base, res can be really tolerable for 12-24 months before i think everybody gets a little "done".
Outstation and hub res also are quite different.

I commuted to reserve and wanted to shoot myself. In-base reserve is marginally better. Plan on flying a lot... In 5 months of reserve I think I had 4 days on which I wasn't called.

Also, even if your base is fat on reserves, plan on plenty of OBR duty, where they send you to sit reserve out of your domicile. Plan on at least one of these each month.

Read the SAPA survival guide and take your blood-pressure meds. You'll need them. Oh, and disregard anything to do with seniority on reserve... Crew Scheduling doesn't pay any attention to seniority or 'Call First' status, as those things are virtually irrelevant under the new reserve rules.

That said, you won't be on reserve long, that's for sure. So that's the good news.

Not DVR.

Reserve in base is great, if you don't get called 4 days it's fair, 4 days of minimum pay makes the diff been reserve and line holder

A few years back reserve was nice here. One year I bid reserve on purpose and had 116 block for the year. Now it's a different story. Bidding reserve went down hill really fast.
