This is a really silly question. I don't think 500 hours is much to ask before hauling 50 to 80 people around. You mean a company that wants to hire me to fly airplanes wants me to have a decent amount of experience flying...........airplanes? How rude. SMH

Uh, because of 2000-hour helicopter pilots who think their time is worth something, but can't fly a single-engine ILS in a sim without rolling it on short final and crashing. True story.
What you most likely saw was a fluke... I've flown with more helicopter pilots than I can count and their stick and rudder skills are usually phenomenal. I take it you don't have any RW hours do you?

Which would you rather have flying your mom home for Christmas, a former helo pilot with 5,000 hours of RW, and 300 FW, or a guy with 1550 hours of FW?
Now that's just funny right there. Thanks for making me smile!! (Obviously spoken by someone who has never tried to beat the air into a submissive hover).

Wish I would have done helo instead, they are great stick and rudder, but like the guy said, instrument flying is a rarity.

And just so we're clear here, I wasn't trying to stir up anyone that resents helo pilots. I was actually trying to discover a reason behind SW's requirement to have 500 FW hours, when the FAA and most other regionals that I have looked at don't require the same thing. I am sure there must be a reason, and it is probably a good one, I was just curious, so asked.
SkyWest, for the most part had higher mins than most of the others and maybe they didn't revise this part when the mins were lowered.
As others mentioned, helo guys tend to have somewhat better stick and rudder skills and little less on instrument skills, not always but typically.
Almost always far better than the 1000 hr CFI's we get.
Most of the higher time helo guys are former military, that are ready to work, try hard, not always but typically.
I'm not former military, but I've usually had good experiences flying with former military. My sincere thanks to those in service.
Honestly, I'd throw in an app and see where it goes. Show up with a good attitude and tell them you're working on the hours and you may get the nod.

Question about wings and name tag. When we got our name tag and wings (1 for coat and 1 for shirt) we were never told where they went. Big wings for the coat, but I'm just not sure which side the little wings and name tag go for the pilot shirt.
All left side. I will bet you there is somewhere you could look that would deal with uniforms.... Probably in a company manual.... Just saying haha
