What about all of the Brasilia FOs off seat lock who want a transition? Why are they running a 20 person CRJ new hire class before they do that?

Usually they have around 20 new hires for the CRJ with a few transitions mixed in. If you want the real answer i would not look for it on a public forum, rather email a specific someone who manages that and ask them if they plan on running any transition classes.

My guess is the first class will not have any transitions because those that are transitioning have no new hires to back fill them out on the line. As more classes progress then i am sure the transitions will be in full swing again.

That makes sense for a brasilia new hire class. They would have to hire people to replace the ones that will be off line going to training. It doesn't make sense to me to run an RJ new hire class before the transitions though.

Because that's the way SkyWest has always done it...

This is the correct answer... It's just because that's how they've done it

Saves money. One training event instead of two (EMB to CRJ, then EMB newhire to replace.) OR... you could look at it this way: We are actually getting very close to being shortstaffed on CRJ captains. Hiring into the CRJ allows RJ FO's to upgrade and still keep staffing numbers relatively even, SkyWest can push through two captain upgrade classes in the time it takes to do initial newhire/transition training. Not to mention the mess we'll have when bidding begins for the E175. Anyway, it's a bit early to freak out, I can assure you there will be transitions offered at the same time we begin newhire training.

This is all good news; in seven years I've been through two training and hiring freezes and came on right after a third, and movement and hiring beats the alternative every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Don't worry if you're on the Bro, you'll get your chance. The news is very fresh, and the training department is still getting their ducks set up. (Notice how it's been a month since the last round of transfers?)

I think they’re running the class that was cancelled first, after that I'd expect transitions to have first rights to any RJ slots.

With 117 rules & the 175's throw in a little attrition to majors/retirement’s = every bro FO who doesn’t want to be there will be off by the end of the year. You might have to take "ANY" as far as transition but you'll be off.

There are very few EMB F/Os who are both eligible AND have any selected as their bid. If they offer a class to new hires before these few, they will be eligible for CRJ pay.
There are currently only about 30 bids that qualify however. It should also be noted that the July bids are not out yet, so there very well could be a transition class starting with the new hires.
