Jet FO to Bro CA is not worth it financially...the QOL pain does not justify the small raise. TPIC is the only good justification for that move.

They'll meet somewhere in the middle on pay...etc. because Skywest's competitive advantage is having a happy, non-union pilot group/work force. They wouldn't mess that up to save a few bucks

Although not a popular upgrade, $14/hr more isn't a joke. For a guy (like me)who lives on the west coast and doesn't want to commute to reserve ORD captain it makes sense.

FOs top out at 44/hour though and even on the brasilia the captain pay still continues to climb. There's almost no way it wouldn't be a good pay raise. If nothing else at least your pay still keeps going up year by year instead of leveling off. I understand people living in ORD/MSP/IAH not wanting to do it but it seems like a good deal for people in west coast bases.

Do they have a minimum GPA requirement? Even if you're still working on the degree?

There are many cases where it doesn't make sense financially. For example, if you are a senior CRJ FO able to credit well over 100 hours/month (with 700/900 override) vs. sitting on reserve as a Bro CA, it would be a pretty big paycut. Throw in having to commute (and expenses associated with that), as well as the reserve suck factor, and I can see why a lot of people don't want to do it.

When I was a Brasilia FO, I flew with several CAs who told me they took a paycut coming to the Bro.

I was the opposite.. I took a paycut going from the Bro to the RJ (as FO). 95 hour line on the bro vs reserve guarantee for the foreseeable future on the RJ.

I don't think they do. My college GPA wasn't great and they didn't ask me anything about it and didn't ask me to bring in transcripts for my interview like some airlines do. That was a few years ago so it may have changed but probably not.

Ok. Same boat here. I'm still working on it but it isn't wonderful. I guess getting out of the Navy and thinking you can take on 6 difficult classes at once wasn't the best thinking.

It's a lot more work for the money. If you're senior enough to upgrade on the Bro, you're senior enough to hold a good line as an RJ FO and adjust your schedule to make up most or all of the pay difference...and still have better QOL.

Don't do it for the money, not worth it. TPIC, sure and it will make you a better pilot.
