I’ll tell the definition. Not the pilots, not the companies, not the passengers. Proper staffing means when a crew gets stuck at an outstation for wx or mx or someone gets sick/emergency we have someone available to call (aka reserve) without cold calling everyone on their day off which many times results in a cancelation. It means they don’t need to go back and manually remove minutes from each flight for pushback to make pilots legal for that extra block time because they have no one available to replace them. It means not violating policy to force people into doing flying that they aren’t required to do because....you guessed it..they don’t have any available pilots to replace them.
Proper staffing would be when you start the day with a 4 hour mx delay they look at your schedule and say “hey we are going to give your next turn to a reserve crew to keep everything on time”.

They get away with it all because they code it as anything under the sun other than not having available crew anytime they can stretch it.

I completely agree staffing is horrendous on the CRJ, and yes there are two different airlines here. I started midwest CRJ and am now west coast ERJ so i can totally sympathize with the guys out there. As far as self funding SAPA I am in favor or unionizing SAPA to get the legal rights and protection from a real contract. I look at some of the protection they have been able to get us without the union and personally feel that is the better way to go. We do have things even union regionals don't i.e. full cancellation pay no matter what the reason, 100% deadhead pay. Yes there are things we dont have that they do. Its my opinion that forming our own legal in house union would be more beneficial to the pilot group. But we will never really know because we will never have it both ways. I agree 5 years ago the math didnt make sense, but given our size now I think the math does work.

Just my uneducated opinion

XJT has full CX pay and 100% deadhead pay as a unionized regional. So you're slowly catching up.

We have full cancellation pay at the CRJ 200 credit value.

Our dead head pay is also at CRJ 200 rate and is only paid credit if it's on our plane.

So it's not like the union carriers.

It's cute that you tried though.

Two of you are reading it how you want to read it rather than how it was written.

I think it’s hilarious that CA awards are going to new hires again.
Where are those who claimed “it’s just for the holidays! People don’t want to upgrade right before the holidays! Upgrade times will go back up right after!”
Uh huh. Right.
This is proof that Skywest is not immune to the staffing issues that are happening at other regionals. We just aren’t hit with it as quickly..it’s still coming.
It won’t be long and we will be displacing qualified but unwilling FOs to the left seat.

With any luck by that time anyone who wants to move on, will have done so with gusto.
