The reality is that you guys need to unionize. I spent a short stint at Skywest between military and legacy, and I know I'm preaching to the choir, but the only way to stop this is get a union to back you up. IMHO

Right, cuz you don't hear all the union shops all complaining about the same stuff. Don't get me wrong, I'll sign a card tomorrow, I just don't have any grand illusions that it will change anything.

Even if we voted it in tomorrow, it'll take years to get a contract hammered out.

The one thing that unionizing WILL change for you, is no longer will the company blatantly be able to get away with unilaterally and blatantly ignoring the "PPM" that they "swear" is a contract.

You may also be able to push for transparency with PBS and the way it does bid awards.

Keep in mind, if SkyWest ever unionized (and I don't think they will) all of a sudden "Mr nice guy management" would be gone and it would be an all out war like the rest of the regionals. Unfortunately, labor law tends to favor management in most situations....

Except you hear stories everyday from unionized shops about management blatantly disregarding contract. Where do you think the term "fly it and grieve it" came from? Supposedly we are close to having bid awards published. I'll believe it when I see it.

Not to derail the ongoing discussion but I've always had an interest in being a sim instructor for an airline. Do these jobs mostly go to senior line pilots or guys who have hit the age 65 limit or is there an ongoing need for these folks? how's that work? Thanks!

True. We have that Happen where I am. But it gets VERY expensive for the company when they do that.

I seriously doubt that.

Not only does every other regional seems to have issue with their union. Even if you look beyond aviation - show me a good example were the union has done something good in the last decade(s).

SkyWest is a pretend Mr nice guy, they take advantage of us daily hiding behind our current/fake representation . I'd vote in a union today
