Do what your company tells you. If your company doesn't provide the tools to do what they require you to do, in this case wifi, then I don't know what to say. But, what I've said about FDP and rest are still true.

Well I agree with you on both accounts. But the company doesn't provide us with sh. Just the expectation that it's done every day before fdp. So... who do I contact at the FAA to tell skw to get their heads outta their @$$3$?

We didn't update paper charts everyday. Why do we now have to update the efb every fdp....?

Fair point about the paper charts. I still can't believe they want the EFB up to date that often. It doesn't seem worth the risk.

Unfortunately, I think there will have to be a lot of issues with the EFB before your management will back off on the updates during trips.

The company clearly requires that EFBs be updated, whether it's daily or once at the start of a trip is subject to debate right now.

That is not something you do voluntarily, since it had to be done before you fly.

Training bulletins are a grey area. You have to do them but the company doesn't say that you have to do them tonight. Unless they are due at midnight tonight, so if you wait until the last day and do them during your ten hour rest that seems like not rest.

Clear as mud.

Unless theres clearly an important (legal) chart update, my efb stays in airplane mode from the time i leave home until the end of the trip. I don't update it during a trip because I was almost burned once. Windows downloaded an update, and then installed it when i turned it on in the plane, leaving me without an efb until the door was almost shut.

Happened to a CA i was with too. His efb froze mid flight so he didna hard reboot. Windows decided to update on the restart and took almost 20min to do so. Luckily by approach it had finished...

Time to fill an IROP and ASAP ... and put it in as a reason for delays.

Seriously it's not that complicated. plug it in update the Jeps, update company material leave it plugged in so it's charged for the next day it takes a few minutes. Much less time than the old way.

At RAH we only have to update before every trip. Has to be charged to 90 percent before every duty period however.
