Excuse my ignorance, but my experience is with foreign carriers where there's no per diem; do you get per diem for your 'time away from base' or the 'duty' time on those four days?
Cheers

to clairify TAFB:
You are still away from base if your trip brings you back to your base during the course of a trip.
TAFB is starting a trip to ending a trip.

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like you want as many over-nights as possible to up that per diem?

Is that money taxed as wages?

It's tax free unless you don't overnight.

Agreed, so glad I'm going back to the CRJ. 175 out of ORD is nonexistent for standups and if there is any it's super long legs.

Thanks for the good laughs, I needed that tonight.

ERJ reserve block hours

For the ERJ FOs on reserve: How many fight hours can you get while on reserve if you actively try? I'm not sure what that time period is called - the months of reserve right after IOE is what I mean.
(I'm talking sell-your-soul and want to get as many flights as possible while on reserve)

Thanks!

You can only pick up flying on your off days. On your reserve days, you can call and ask for flying, but in my 5 months on reserve, they never once gave me a trip when I asked for it. Crew Scheduling is preprogrammed to say 'No' to all pilot requests, even if it would help them out. You'll see what I mean...

The biggest thing is making sure your bid is WIDE open. That means you will take anything the company gives you at anytime. What that does is allow you to pick up a composite line which gives you the ability to use sked+ to Adjust your schedule. With that being said, ORD FO with 3 months where I bid reserve specifically, I'll have 350ish Block 900ish Credit for the year. I was actively picking up as much as I could.
