Outside looking in, from my perspective, this would be accurate. The pay is a substantial deterrent.

Not sure I see your point. You state a problem but no solution. Are they supposed to not hire young instructors? Because if they don't someone else will.
Skywest is already investing into this with their 0-hero program with their new company Skypath....associated with TransPac. Not very well known but it started this year with 2 brand new Archers bought by Skywest and when I left it was rumored they were starting with 8 pilots to see how it works out. ATP style training...get your certs and flight time as fast as you can then you work for Skywest. Not sure about details beyond that because the new TransPac owners were still trying to figure it out. Seemed like a smart idea and trying to mitigate a problem that we have less pilots coming through so they'll be more selective. May as well seal them up at 0 hours. |
I like hearing the desire for higher pay as contract talks begin before we know it. But on that line I'd bet a skyw 2 or 3 year FO/CA W2 is mostly in line with others even with their bonus, but I'm open to being wrong if they post their W2 numbers.
PSA flow looks to be 12 years from now at 8/month. 6 years if HALF the company pilots get hired elsewhere. That perk comes with handcuffs. |

My point is they are making popcorn with their seed corn. No flight instructors, no new pilots......

So go to envoy and get that huge first year bonus then if it's all about first year pay for you. Or you could do PSA or Piedmont. Those that come to Skywest generally know what the pay is and do so for other reasons. Good luck!

Taxes
I've had my accountant doing my taxes for years when I worked in another industry. I've been at SKYW now for a few months and wondered if there is anything peculiar to the 121 world with regards to filing? Any 'I wish I would have known I could have done that' tax issues or gotchas to watch out for? Thanks! |
Have been away for some time. The profiles page says that LAX is a junior base for E170 FOs, Any truth to that?

Point was that people aren't coming to SkyWest for the pay, but for domiciles and company reputation. Some might say work rules, but I'd argue they're average to a little above-average. If you have something to add, then by all means, but rewording what the individual I was concurring with said, but in a contradictory manner, is silly. |

If you're chasing pay you'd probably be better off at Endeavor! If you're ok with New York and the 200 you could probably upgrade relatively fast. Beware though those big retention bonuses are set to expire unless they extend them or somehow roll them into their pay rates... Good luck to ya! |

Are you at Skywest now? Where do you work? How can you really comment to anything if you're not here or anywhere? Your response to his post was that the pay here was a big deterrent for you. Our replies were that there's more to it than pay! BTW I've been at one of the really good paying first year regionals.... there's a reason they have to offer those bonuses...
