A good paying 4 day is 24+ hours. A bad paying 4 day is 18 hours and they do exist.

A bad paying local is 4:12 and a good paying one an pay up to 8+.

Ballpark average. The company won't schedule more than 28 hours (IIRC) in a given work block because if you have delays you could bump up against 30 hours and they'd have to pull you off of the trip.

A high-quality four day would be 24-28 hours, and those are not always easy to come by.

Considering the US because it seems like an ok avenue to move up in aircraft complexity.
One of the first considerations is whether you choose the CRJ or ERJ.

CRJ new hires are going to Detroit. ERJ new hires are going to Chicago. But, that could change in a heartbeat when we open a new base. Rumors about a new base are out there and a new base sounds imminent. They won't tell you where because that will disclose the partner.

If you avoid California (and New York City in case we eventually get a base there), you can survive on what you will earn. And, it becomes more liveable after you upgrade to captain (2 years on the CRJ and 3 years on the ERJ).

Both cities are comparatively (to California) inexpensive to live in. Chicago has a decent mass transit system if you live within walking distance.

Is it the rumor we've all been hearing about for months that you're talking about? Sure would help the west coast.

Aside from BOI, what rumor are we talking about here?.. I've heard nothing.

There were 4 unsubstantiated rumored new bases this week alone. I will believe a new base when it happens. Only one of those four rumored bases helps the west coast.

Does SKW has a commuter policy? What kind of pay should one expect the first year?

What rumor are you talking about? Only rumors I hear are for the south.

SAN (E175 since Alaska announced some SAN routes)
ATL (since we already do a few departures there and Expressjet is shrinking. This was a base once upon a time)
BNA (Mx base)

People love base rumors

BOI is one of the four I heard. And, since it is a perennial rumor, it is the one I tend to not believe will happen. In this day of pilot shortages, I believe management will establish bases where they can obtain pilots, or at least that is what I would do.

Most rumors are driven by news articles, or changes in the industry by other carriers, which makes the rumors completely unreliable. For example, SAN was the rumored new west coast base.
