Seems like there is a lot of resentment around here towards people who built hours the CFI route. Is that just a Skywest specific thing, or industry wide?

I came from that route and I haven't gotten flak about it. I think if you have a good attitude you won't run into problems. Most guys probably won't even care where you came from. I think they're just saying some of the bad apples tend to be from that side, which makes sense. Other 121 guys probably get it and don't come in entitled. Just my guess?
I prefer to fly with former CFI's who have a good attitude even if they're still figuring things out. Attitude is key.

I've flown with former mil, skydiving, bush pilots, former 121 and CFI. No matter Attitude is everything.
100% agreed

Bid 'avoid reserve' in layer 6. It worked for me. 3 months after IOE, I got a line. ERJ west coast base. You never know your luck.
Quote: Just curious, what did you fly before coming to SKW?
Instructor. Fastest thing I flew before the CRJ was a 310.

This. Goes for senior captains as well. Nothing can make a trip more miserable than flying with someone with a bad attitude. Come to work, get each other's back, go home with no paperwork. Win.
Quote: Because you learn to recognize it all a hell of a lot quicker when you manually plan every arrival instead of VNAV to an ILS. Not to mention the fact that you have to control airspeed on an approach. Not saying one is more difficult than another, but the CRJ is a better step for a former CFI. I've seen what product is produced by either airplane and you can't even compare the difference.
I'm not really trying to argue with you, just the 10x better comment. It actually still takes a good amount of descent planning to get the ERJ to fly an arrival well. Throw in some tail wind and really watch them sweat. I get annoyed with the arbitrary 2.5 descent angle "fix all" which really doesn't fix much.
Bit of course here, sorry, but can one of you folks tell me when new hire spoues's get travel benefits? Straight away? Trying to organize relocation for the family...
Cheers
