However some of us want more for busting our butts! Instead all I see is managements salary increasing millions at a time and our weekly "stay competitive" email. Management has this pilot group bent over so far it's not even funny! Don't think so? Look at Skywest managements pay the last 5 years, it's public record. We've been had boys!!!!!! Don't like it? Get a major airline job or a new career. I sure hope you didn't come to SKW thinking you were going to stay and have legacy airline QOL and compensation??? |

It's a regional. If regionals start having actual leverage they will cease to exist...that's the whole point. Regionals are not airlines, they subcontractors.

Come on, man, open your eyes! This is a regional. Subcontracted flying. The "partners" and their unions call the shots and we get what they don't take first. How the hell do you think this company is going to survive if they just gave us all huge raises, 401K increases, the moon, the stars, etc? Let's say they gave us all big raises, then Delta or United pulled alot of their flying back or possibly didn't rtenew contracts a few years from now? We would end up in the same sinking boat as our poor brothers at XJT. You may think you're working yourself to death and deserve bonuses everytime you pushback on time, but if OO caved in to that, we'd all be out of work in three years or less.
Just what is it you think you deserve while working here? When all the whiners keep whining, all we hear is "This place sucks. We deserve more. Other places are better.....yackity, yack, yack", but no one gives realistic ideas on how to improve this awful, rough life at Skywest that apparently isn't bad enough to walk away from. Xjt is in the place it's in, in part because of Skywest pilots. You guys work for the most successful, most profitable regional airline ever in the entire world! Yet, you can't find yourselves to use the leverage of the best pilot environment since Orville and Wilbur. And on top of that, you guys shot your wad on a measly pay raise that locks you in for five years while simultaneously giving away leverage by letting management raise FO pay without having to come back and negotiate. It sounds like there is at least one Skywest pilot that is frustrated over that and I don't blame him. Your pay rates are just multipliers to your work rules. Right now you guys are one of the most productive pilot groups and that equates to your work rules being a low multiplier of your pay rates. You can do a lot better for yourselves but that requires using your leverage effectively. |

I am not happy about the pay package. I am not happy about what is happening at xjt. I fully understand Skywest as a group passed this pay package but I have no interest in it no matter what they claim for the future. |

There are a lot more than one pilot irritated about the recent negotiations. Count me as one of them.

People who aren't happy with the regional lot should spend their time and energy on getting out, not peeing into the wind. Doesn't matter if it's SAPA or ALPA either, anyone who's been around a while will recall that the biggest ALPA success stories in regional-land were COMAIR and XJT. Now with that said, if you don't have a college degree, being an RJ CA is not a bad gig compared to other options, just not as good of a gig as most majors (unions generally work fairly well at majors). |

I'm the same as you guys.... This recent pay debacle and the negative circumstances affecting XJT has increased my awareness about the nature of SkyWest, Inc. and the regional industry as a whole. I'll be leaving for sure, upgrade or not. After two years of service here, I've had enough. Two more years aren't worth it. Spring 2018 is my planned date of exit. If I weren't involved with other projects, I would make it happen sooner.
Honest question, where are you going that's better? A fractional? Other regionals are going to treat you worse than SKW. If you're competitive for majors, well duh you should go do that asap. |
Weird how the last 5 years people have a "unrealistic view" of what a pilots regionals life is like.. 10+ years ago we all knew it was a stepping stone,( long ruff 6 leg days, crapy overnights ect)...now people expect it to "mirror" life at the Majors... Maybe they never flew a crapy cargo gig. They Came from a G1000 glass aircraft.. Definitely a different day and age we live in..
