I never said I was pro alpa. In fact I don't think alpa is good for a regional. Conflict of interest if you ask me. But I was just stating that number of days to be terminated seemed rediculous. But turns out he was talking about occurrences.

 

I understood that the pendulum was about to swing back a bit... the company was tolerating ever-increasing scheduling hijinks from a certain demographic of new hires who came with an entitlement assumption that their personal convenience always comes first.

The attendance crackdown of late was targeted at a small group of pilots. The need to document a history of progressive discipline led to the CP emails and phone calls... those were not actually intended to harass the average pilot, they are just necessary to build a lengthy paper-trail on chronic abusers who need escalating discipline prior to termination.

Probably going to be a few more examples to come.

Of course the root of all this is the staffing situation... which is only going to get worse from here on out. SKW has enough problems even without taking on more flying.

 

I don't have the exact numbers, but a reputable SAPA rep said that SkyWest terminated more pilots in the last 12 months than all of the other ALPA represented regionals combined. It was from details from the disciplinary committee report.

Management is incredible at the hush hush procedures.......

At will employment, means just that!

 

Once again if that was the case. It would be out there spreading like wild flowers... unless someone can produce something with strong evidence its all just banter.. Trust me. If that was factual i would make sure everyone knows the facts..

 

Word in the school house last week was the planes that were gonna be ordered for DFW got put on the back burner by Bombardier. It's in the works I think though.

 

If there were 1% of the pilots being fired every year, that would be a very high rate! If there were 45 pilots fired, how many of the other 4500 pilots would ever know about it? And it’s not just firings, it’s also discipline, harassment, scheduling shenanigans, and intimidations? How many of those instances go unnoticed by the thousands of other pilots due to pilots not wanting to rock the boat? At a union carrier, these things are tracked and reporting is specifically solicited to the members through emails sent out to them. When reporting these things to the appropriate committee, you don’t have to ever worry about that information going to a pilot who is paid by the company to represent them. That’s a HUGE conflict of interest!

 

If you have gone to CQ ground. They you are aware we have.. Pro standards, C.H.I.R.P, HIMS, and multiple other committees under SAPA. Not to mention the ones offered by the Company... most people juat don’t search out what’s available...

This bickering about unions is pointless. I am in contact firsthand with the ALPA official who undersees efforts to introduce ALPA to SkyWest. As much as I wish to see it happen, it simply will not. SkyWest pilots are too apathetic and infected by the anti-union fervor propogated by management for a union to make any headway here. I wear the ALPA lanyard given to me for awareness. Upon spotting it most pilots will tell me that they do not trust unions or that they believe them to be inconsequential here. Then again there are those who tell me that they support unionization, but when I direct them to the resources to become involved: silence. I strongly suspect that they fear the potentiality what would happen to them should management ever find out that they support unionization efforts. So far since its recent inception, no one whom I know has been fired, reprimanded, or disciplined for being active in the drive. In any case, the effort to unionize is experiencing week support from the pilot group. A shame really....

 

I think it does have an unintended consequence then.
But I am thankful the email motivated me to put out my apps and get my log book in order.
