That's correct. We all have our reasons. Pay isn't the only motivator for me.

Pay really is not everything, and the people I know at envoy are being used and abused. I can't help but feel like something will be done here at SkyWest to continue to attract new hires though. The pay difference is fairly large at this point and what attracted me here was the ability to be based where I live out west.

60k to sit reserve for years? No thanks. How long is the upgrade currently? How about that flow? First year FOs make 40k at Skywest with the ability to make more. Upgrade is 2 years and falling. Practically no reserve time at the Midwest bases. 4:12 minimum pay per day. Should I keep going?

I'm assuming ORD is a larger base, but since they're both about the same distance from where I live, are there any pros or cons to deciding between DTW and ORD?
You seniority may improve faster in DTW, but the flying is probably better in ORD (depends what you want). A great deal depends on where flying moves (UA 700s going away, AA 700s joining the fleet, DTW final size not yet determined). As an FO you should be able to transfer into either base on a monthly basis, so if you feel like changing your mind you can with little trouble.

This is probably one of the better things about SKW. They've been doing base transfers about every month, and you could switch each month as long as there's a spot. Last summer I transferred to DTW just to get days off I wanted, and then transferred back to ORD a month later. The only downside is that you lose your vacation slots if you do transfer.

Dual class flying for DTW people will probably be a near term announcement that changes things.

Most SkyWest pilots credit significantly more hours than they block every month.

This. You can count on crediting about 33% more than you fly due to work rules. This year, about 25% of my pay comes from hours I didn't fly (DH pay, MDG, trip rigs, etc.

Eh, not for a newhire. You'll see about $1200 in performance rewards. Financial rewards don't kick in til Year 3 I think.
