Thanks for that information. Not getting too excited but here’s to better times, and a better contract. Congrats to everyone who put in more than enough time.

I'll probably be one of them when my number is up. I'm thinking a 20% seniority buffer ought to be enough to ward off involuntary displacement so I'm bidding 80% in base, then in base FO, in base CA 100%, and then nearest 2 bases CA. I'm hoping I won't have to commute again until I retire.

There will always be a bunch of people bypassing. Many of our pilots enjoy a military retirement, and no one is at SWA to time build TPIC. I would count on 60% system seniority being the percentage it takes to hold captain. That’s what it was pre-Covid.

I plan on bypassing until I can get in base or the two closest bases. That's even knowing that I might end up getting stuck in the right seat if/when this recession goes full force and the music stops for a bit.

There's a reason the upgrade stays around 60% in good as well as bad times. During the good times, people are willing to wait an extra few months to get a better base/wait for one more year of vacation/etc. During bad times, people are willing to wait to upgrade so they don't get stuck doing a commute for x amount of years.

Except for some of the 24 year old new hires with zero TPIC we just hired....

Any of you guys who are bypassing over 50 years old? Trying to get an idea if years remaining is influencing the bypass decision.

I’d like to see a survey of the by-passers to see how age and geography influences their decision.

geographic and EBG lock for 6 months is huge. Tie that with LAX is small and not a lot of open time for reserves to get used plus always a new hire coming in that soaks up those lines and OAK being a PIA commute to the east coast and it's a no brainer. Age might be a distant 2nd to those constraints.
I'm also assuming the majority of those bypassing are getting close to upgrade in their/more desirable base. I predict bypass comes down to 600 by spring.
