Come to Southwest or not?

16.5 year QSer. Just about to finish my first year at SWA. Yes we definitely have our problems at SWA but I have 0.0% regret leaving QS and coming here. Even PM reserve here is miles better than anything I held at QS was.

This. I just sat next to a Delta 321 captain who'd come off a trip that sounded like ours, with short overnights, reroutes and unscheduled plane swaps...he was beat. Big difference is that he's going to bid back to WB FO in the near future, we don't have that option. There's a reason NB/domestic captain is going so junior at the airlines where the senior guys have a choice...
Yup. Writing this from the bunk at FL360. Took a 2 hour nap, texted the family. Now back to the cockpit for 4 hours until landing.
I disliked being a middling 737 CA.

If a legacy is your goal go to SWA hands down, especially since you live in base. Chances are AA, DAL and UAL would show you some love right after you finished training. If not, SWA is probably more stable long term than most 135 gigs.

There is a more substantial reason to stick it out at NJ vs XXY 135 operator. Well, lots of reasons. If he was 135 I would say its no question, make the move. But since he flies QS tails, he has a union, a contract, good healthcare, etc.

Southwest is a great airline. A lot of negativity on the forum because we are in contract negotiation.
I left a 777 position at a reputable foreign carrier for swa. Seeing the sunrise and sunset on the same flight gets old. Circadian rhythm change, being stuck 10/12/16h in the tube isn’t fun. Being in the bunk for hours….I’d rather fly 3 legs in a day. WB flying out of the US is mostly east/west flying so you got to ask yourself how
Many red eyes I want to do per month? We’re all different so find your priorities.
Even as a Junior guy in SWA, i get 15 days off a month, some unused reserve days, ability to pick up. Other buddies in res at UA, can’t pick up extra and get more cash. Of course after the recent events in SWA, some guys will jump ship but it’s the current market.
Do your research and you’ll find your answer.

Hello everyone. I understand there are multiple threads and it is too time consuming going to look for specific answers. I have a Southwest class date in hand but I am in two minds as to whether I should come over or not. I fly for a good charter company even though our management and union are squabbling and am home based. I have not had an invite from UA or DL or AA hence why I applied here. I seem to be reading mixed sentiments about SWA so I would like to hear people's opinons.

At SWA, the pay is better, I'm not at work nearly as many days, and I'm not gone for a week at a time. My hardest days at SWA are still easier than an average day at NJA, without question. I'd highly recommend looking at the other majors as well.

I left NJA for SWA around six years ago. Despite the contract and management issues we're dealing with right now, there's not one single minute that I have regretted jumping ship and starting over. I was physically exhausted after every tour, and would need a day of recovery once I got home before I was useful for much.
