Oh you're right. My mistake. Seems very out of character for Gary to have a type A industry insider on the board. He usually appointed failed execs from JCP corp to rubber stamp his agenda.
In any case, this announcement was quietly rolled out and the footnote about the fleet committee was pretty odd. I am curious what is afoot.
After doing some heavy podcast listening and reading today, I am convinced that they are setting SWA on a long term plan to become a legacy operation. It will take a lot of time, but doing short and medium haul P2P in a single type fleet is played out and they know it. Gary totally effed this company forever by not reading the tea leaves and making changes earlier.

Beautiful. I regret that I have only one like to give.
meat puppets.
Yes, he is a Gary appointee. Weird choice, but nobody here knows what is going on in the board right now. They may be drawing battle lines and having an Elliot appointee as chair may not have been in the majority's best interest. Gangwal is clearly driving the bus right now with bleeding the company of cash reserves and other financial trickery to pay the shareholders. The timing and hasty nature of his exit makes me think that maybe the majority (SWA picks still hold a slight majority of board seats) has had enough.

Back to the topic at hand... Does anyone know if any other CEO and the BOD of any publicly-traded company ever allowed a single product to stall and stifle their growth for damn near 7 years without doing anything about it? I'm starting to believe that our current inaction on MAX 7 is reaching the level of fiduciary recklessness.
I'm starting to see parallels with Blackberry.

It’s no secret that we’re getting the 8s at an absolute steal. Would backing out of the 7s cause that continued good deal to evaporate?

Great question. It’s insane. Maybe the explanation is that as long as we keep Boeing on the hook for the 7, we can continue to take delivery of 8s at 7 prices or “monetize” our order book.

what makes you think that? Is the high density 777 any better? I’ve heard it’s awful. People will fly on whatever has the right price…

They said they want to give people what they want: assigned seats, lounges, places they want to go (STT). 🤷🏼♂️
