If anything, hub and spoke more so requires a smaller aircraft to feed the hub.
All AW said is that they are taking less of the MAX7. Frequency was a cornerstone of SWA for decades. Within some city pairs, it still is. The top two O&D city pairs for SWA is DEN-PHX and MDW-DEN. Both are 10 flights a day. HOU-DAL is ranked 10th. Still a lot frequency though. Almost all of the top 10 are over the average stage length of the airline. They are experimenting no doubt and need a smaller aircraft then a MAX8. Obviously if they truly bank everything, they will need a smaller aircraft then the MAX7. AW has stated that they creating connectivity on some flights knowing load factors within certain city pairs are historically low in certain seasons. Feeding MDW with a MKE in theory should help drive more itineraries in MDW, driving up load factor and hopefully yields.

I'm not saying it's a good idea, I'm just saying it's why buying JetBlue isn't the answer. It's cheaper just to figure it out than take on JB debt.

They converted some 7 to 8 is why they aren't taking as many. They also got a good credit maybe they will use for something else. Who knows? That's what makes this all.so exciting

An all economy class and we hualed 162 in it. With a 1st class 12 1st class seats we hauled 150.
Little underpowered when full and high/hot.
it’s been many moons so my memory is admittedly fuzzy. I remember we carried 126 on the -300, and I want to say 144 on the -400? Also with 12 FC seats. Point being, we carry a lot more in the same a similar platform.

It had the classic wing so we couldn’t do westbound transcons a lot of the time without redispatching. I was always told the wing was the issue as opposed to the engines, but who knows? (For a minute I thought Aloha ran them to Hawaii out of Burbank, but I checked and those were ETOPs -700s)

we didn’t have -400’s. The 500’s had like 137. You talking “we” like US Air?…just remembered you’ve been round the block.

Is this true?

I thought the rule was the shorter the runway, the more fuel we tanker in?

Only when it’s a contaminated surface and deicing is in effect!

Interesting...I can't think of anywhere you can't do in an 800. Some gates are 700 only, but that might even be a Southwest-ism (BWI really has gates that can't fit an 800, or are we just being careful?).
