Thanks, Stitches. I appreciate you sharing your experience. I don't project to have a ton of flight time by the time I transition, but then again hiring should be back to more normal by then. It seems to me that it would make a ton of sense for SWA to start something like United's UMPP. Any way to give folks a chance to more or less lock things in while still on AD would make a huge amount of sense for both SWA and for people looking for some security in a very uncertain time of personal and professional transition. I know I would be all over it. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be jamming out my UMPP app...

Unfortunately, this IS a normal hiring environment. The over-hiring of the past few years was a panic response to the travel demand after the Covid slowdown. All airlines are hiring, albeit at a metered rate, but still just as much as pre-covid. SW still has new hire classes scheduled and will hold more as soon as the politicians kick the FAA in the a$$.

I think you have this backwards... Congressional intervention has added years to the MAX debacle.

I think MAX 7 is gonna get certified in a rather short order with Trump back in the WH.

Right now, you literally have bureaucrats holding Boeing and many US airline hostage over BS. You can't tell me MAX 7 is "unsafe to be certified" when it was MAX 7 that was used to re-certify the MAX 8, but because of DC politics and bureaucrats, they're holding it hostage over complete nonsense.

20 Jan can't come quickly enough.

Inspected and no issues. United had some issues on MAX 9's.

As for the door plugs? We don't fly MAX 9's. MAX 8's and 7's don't even have them.

I hope you're right, but I am not holding my breath. This isn't a partisan issue. There is hatred for Boeing that spans both sides of the aisle. Most of it has been rightfully earned by a corporation that has lost its soul. A president can't flip a switch and make a problem as big as Boeing magically right again. The FAA is making up for decades of not doing their jobs by doing it too well.
SWA doesn't have the Max 7 in their plans for this year. I don't think they are being dramatic at all.

There are bigger initiatives that will take place long before the Max 7 has a airworthy certificate. I still think probably in the fall. Remember, even after that, SWA still won’t get the airplane for another six months or so. Well into 2026.

it'll be a big day for sure. Grocery and egg prices will come down, we will invade Greenland and Panama, Canada will become the 51st state, the Gulf of Mexico will be renamed for some reason, heat will be less itchy AND the Max 7 will finally be certified!

may we live in interesting times. ;-)
