I’m thinking there is some shared blame there. Two extremes, one from each of these camps, get paired, bake at 350 for 15 minutes, and out comes a steaming hot Ops day. Thankfully, I think we have seen a change in the absurd hiring spree and are back to competitive applicants. Next, we need to clean up “those guys/gals” which are widely known but nothing seems to happen with them.

From: DOWNGRADE COMPLETE: Thanks Gary. Thanks SWAPA.
The 6-pack was also a thing at Continental when they got their NGs. It was for fleet commonality with their Classics as well. I’m not defending it but rather just pointing out that at least one other airline that I know of had to do it as they transitioned from Clasixs to NGs.

Yeah we did.... we were overspeeding the sh!t outta the flaps because VNAV was something Chinese, or maybe Martian, and scaring the offline jumpseaters by setting zeros.
Also, just imagine the insanity that happens when you "accidentally" engage the second autopilot on an ILS... all kinds of crazy new FMA's show up. But instead, we got the "Dammit Chappy, I'm doing it my way" good sh!ts in Dallas, so we're stuck being the stud-muffins, probably the only ones left in the industry, who still hand-fly cat 3's while humming "One Vision."

Not to mention the clear benefit being that auto land also offers auto go-around - go arounds being another event that has in the past required the entirety of the pilot group to come to Dallas for a chat.

I would've bet a paycheck that before we started redeyes they would've implemented auto land. It's is stunning to me that you could have a crew fly all night long, then have the Captain hand fly a CatIII, attempting to see the HGS symbology washed out by the rising sun, while the poor FO just sits over there thinking "hope this guy/gal knows what they're doing."

The company doesn't care about displacements, so let's not act like that's a consideration with a new base. The latest company propaganda (Townhall) they stated basically that the displacements are a juniority problem and that there will always be junior people. Also, that would shorten the commute for a lot of folks.
