It wasn’t even industry standard. Pull your head out of the sand. Enjoy flying with the below industry standard. We are getting some great guys no doubt but not 60 a month. And the good ones we are getting are leaving bc everywhere else is paying $90/hr with healthcare day one. Just wrote a LOR the other day for one. Hate to see them go.

Management loves the “its better than my regional” philosophy. It’s what got us our stellar (sarcastic) new contract where on reserve we lost all qol. The more people they hire with this philosophy the more the bar is lowered every time come contract negotiations. I also agree that we will start struggling to find new hires again, unless other airlines stop hiring completely.

Of course everyone comes because it’s better then their last job, it’s the fact it’s becoming a “better then my regional” mentality issue. It is for sure better then a regional but with this (general) mentality we lost qol in the last contract because even with the loss it was still “better then a regional.” All one has to do is look at how swa negotiations went, there wasn’t (much) of a “better then my regional” mentality over there. After their first ta got shot down they brought in a new negotiation team. It’s a good example of what we should have done.

I start 9/23
House is up for sale, boat is up for sale, and my year old truck is for sale. Small sacrifice to have Job security and great retirement in my book.
Small family here wife 3 year old and a dog.
Thankfully I was able to save some cash from the Corporate world and will help us through the first year.

One can make whatever excuses you want about first year pay but the reality is that ultimately you get - as coworkers - what you as a company are able to recruit. Expecting someone to go through training and the first year taking a $30k cut in pay to NOT affect the quality of the pool you are drawing from is just silly. But expecting that anyone who does go through that to feel strongly that he or she owes any loyalty to the people above who LET him/her be cr@pped upon in the contract or in the pilot group as a whole isn’t silly, it’s stupid. You want a pilot group where it’s every man for himself? That’s what you’ll get.
I don’t care that it’s better than what you had, or that when you were a newbie FO you had to push back the aircraft yourself, uphill, after you did the walk around, IN THE SNOW, surviving on snack basket leftovers, and you were glad for the chance. Because things are changing. The demographics are changing. Some regionals and a lot of ACMIs are scraping the bottom of the barrel.
If that’s where you want your newbies to come from, keep treating them like dirt. You’ll get your wish.

Soooo, you and everyone that didn't come from the regionals left BETTER jobs for Spirit? Why did you come here? I'm guessing because it is better than your last job. I know that most pilots that suffered through the "lost decade" as regional pilots are waaay more concerned with contract issues than others that came via other avenues. Simply because we suffered with crappy work rules much longer. I will give you that some of the new guys really haven't experienced much abuse simply because they are relatively new to the industry and may be prone to what you are saying. But, you are painting with a very broad brush. This place is way better than a regional, as it should be.

$57 puts your in the 78th percentile of income in the us.
If you don’t like it here, leave. It’s a great country we live in. Go be a 777 pilot, a stock broker or a real estate agent or what ever floats your boat. You can even go float boats!
If you are here, enjoy it! Life is too short to be miserable. Also, I vote yes to change our NC.
