Spirit May 2019 hiring
#72
Every summer they run short on pilots and it leads to some sort of collapse. Ask any pilot who has been here for at least 3 or 4 summers...
We only invest just enough to keep the IT department barely functional, every pilot should know that based on experience. Saves money.
The company disputed our rigs to help delay PBS for a month, to save money.
We are not that far removed from when this company was a place that removed half of the light bulbs in their corporate office to save money, and had an empty desk where a receptionist would sit.
So to what is stopping them? Money. Its always money. So don't believe for a second if they can't find a way to delay hiring another few months, they will. This isnt "running around in panic," its being aware on who we work for.
WOKE!

Yeah, uh, it’s the same story everywhere. Bean counters are bean counters. They only see immediate costs and are **** poor at down the line consequences. It’s been that story at every operation I’ve ever worked at, and every operation I’ve ever flown for has had peak flying issues.
Enjoy the premium money if and when another meltdown comes.
“They’re doing it to save money!” is a mind boggling reason to get “Woke”. No sh*t. Of course they’re doing it as cheap as they can as long as they can, and have some cost benefit analysis to show to the decision makers to justify their reasoning. Or a new, supposedly more efficient, scheduling system that they’re working out the kinks on is another valid reason for the delay.
That train runs both ways. Adding a class or spooling up a month later, particularly with much of the training department in low demand, wouldn’t be a problem with a wind shift in Miramar.
Or we can go diving down the nearest available “They’re lying to us, we’re never gonna hire or order more aircraft” hole.
The chiefs and training department were given projected numbers for growth and upgrade. You’ll live if they miss the start date on that by 60 days.

“Bean counters being bean counters” isn’t just the blanket universals truth you want it to be. Airlines either wake up and develop the infrastructure, or they don’t. It’s why I mentioned the light bulbs, I believe we now have full light bulbs. It was a decision, as basic as it seems.
I’ve never said “they are lying to us,” you keep going there. You said there isn’t a reason why they would not train and hire more for August, I said there is, money. I will live just fine, I was hired here before the growth and do not need more planes for an upgrade or to hold my base of choice. Done and done. It seems you are the one really wanting hiring to start ASAP in order to get one of the above for yourself. In a weird twist, I’m better off short term when the company craps the bed this summer, more money to be made at 200%.

I didn’t come from a regional. I don’t “need” the upgrade. And while everyone would love to see hiring happen, I’m not the one losing my mind on here like some when vacancy bids come out.
You’re pretty terrible at projecting. I’d avoid it in the future. If you read the thread you’ll find the lying comment. Not every comment in a post is directed specifically at you.

As far as I remember, the plan is approximately 150 upgrade and 300 new hires (150 growth and 150 to replace upgrading FOs)
The most recent vacancy bid was 5 openings in august for 5 FOs that started early May, so 3 month lead time.
The first classes of the hiring pick up in July would then be bidding for October, so it seems to me that’s when to expect a bigger vacancy bid put out.
As far as upgrades, say that would be 28 a month, doubtful they would begin pulling large numbers of FO’s off the line until they had new hires ready to fill the gap, so that may start a month or two after the initial new-hire machine cranks up.
It seems logical not to expect large vacancy bids with massive movement until close to the end of the year, and Q1 next year.... and that’s if there are no major hiccups/training backlogs/etc along the way.

Won’t know until you put your app in. Try to get an internal recommendation as well.
