Call Bose they will send you an adapter for the airbus. Works in all now

20-30 years in an Airbus using company headset and “topless” at 18 will cause permanent hearing damage. Especially above 300 knots.

Some guys have the speaker up so loud in cruise to hear the radio it bottoms out my ear drum. If the other guy is turning down your radio for you every leg, it’s time to bring your own headset.

I leave them on until the lower 30's (have my own) and when we go standard, I just mention that's what do but if they want to go off I can pull an ear. Never had anyone not stay on and most comment how much better it was to not start a dull shouting match at 180, especially at CI99.

Individual susceptibility to noise-induced hearing loss: an old topic revisited.

Henderson D1, Subramaniam M, Boettcher FA.

Author information

Abstract

The wide range in susceptibility to noise-induced hearing loss has intrigued researchers and hearing conservationists alike. Some of these differences in variability have been attributed to various intrinsic factors such as eye color, gender, age, etc. However, a review of controlled research shows that the influence of these intrinsic variables is relatively small and cannot explain the wide range of hearing loss observed in demographic studies. Furthermore, uncontrolled variables or unrecognized drug and noise interaction may obscure the relation between noise exposure and hearing loss. With the growing understanding of the physiology of the auditory system, new possibilities are emerging that may explain the range of susceptibility. A review of the role of acoustic reflex effectiveness, cochlear efferent function, and history of noise exposure provide a perspective for future strategies in predicting susceptibility to noise-induced hearing loss.

Dont all the Telex's come with a windscreen? Someone must keep stealing them. Flew a CL604 and it was never loud like an RJ...I think they must have opted for the insulation. The Airbus is LOUD. But that's just what happens when you push a fat tube through the air at 340 kts.

lol try jump seating on a 737 or ERJ-145. Airbus is whisper quiet compared to them.

it sure is. If I fly with a douche (very rare) I leave my headset on the whole time. When we go topless, I put earplugs in. Just a smart thing to do.

Telex 850 for me, and I ask the other guy if he mind if we keep on until TOC and put it back on at TOD. If the other guy has his own, I just try to keep it on as long as I can. It's easier to hear, especially with CI of 99.
