One of you (too many pages to re read, sorry) keeps saying something about people here liking the business model. What? All I ever hear from Spirit pilots is Beotching about dirty airplanes, dirty carpet, untrained rampers, no support, etc. I'm not sure who the "NK pilots believe in the business model" is, or who he/she is talking to…. but I assure those interested in Spirit that the cheapness of the business model disgusts most pilots here. I could care less if Spirit cleans the lavs or not, but most pilots are seriously not happy with the business model. One mans observation.

I was wondering if any Spirit guys here have, or know of others who have started as a ground instructor for 2 years and then moved to the line. The opportunity has oddly came up and like to pick some brains about the job. Appreciate it.

We pilots are never happy, there. Never good enough, never fast enough, never clean enough, never enough.

Recently our airplanes were scheduled to be cleaned twice as much as they were. Our rampers are no different than your rampers. Minimum wage performers. We are going through yet another transition period of cutting costs. As long as it doesn't compromise safety so-be-it. Management gets paid to make this airline profitable and we get paid to move the airplanes.

A new contract will hopefully quiet those who question the business model. I for one enjoy working for an airline providing travel opportunities to those who value a dollar.

Our work rules are better than most. Every guy/gal I fly with share the same positive outlook. Growing pains / change is exactly that... I haven't seen shortcuts in our maintenance nor our training and safety department. I've been here for 8 years and we have many who could play ball for any major yet choose to stay because Spirit is a good place to be - and has the potential to serve its' pilots with a highest quality of life.

Those that complain are in the minority - yet I embrace their opinions - know that all of us are working to make this small airline a great airline.

MOST of us on property DO believe in this business model! Yeah there is lots of stuff to complain about, but we all have seen firsthand how full our airplanes are. I buy tickets on us for my wife several times a year because it guarantees her a seat........AND it's cheaper than everyone else! Same goes for my family and friends, they use our product for the same reasons.......happy, no let me correct that, TOLERANT......with our poor on time performance, leg room issues, no onboard amenities, and the occasional poor customer service.......all to save $75 on a round trip ticket. That's what you call being a fan of the business model! Most everybody I work with feels this way about it, as do my family and friends. The exception is when a flight cancels or is really really late or when the uninformed flyer has to pay $100 for their carry-on bag or the gate agent makes someone combine their bags to conform to our policies........then they get ****ed and vow to NEVER use our services again. But the business model works whether u agree with it or not, and whether u like it or not.

I know two. My ground instructor is on the line now and his replacement is now in ground school heading for the line. I've been here 1.5 years.

It's a great deal!

Good luck

I love the business model. I believe in it and I understand why customer service and a little aircraft hygiene have to suffer because of it. I've traveled around Asia and Europe and always bought tickets on ULCCs with the exact same business model and they are proven. Trains are dirty and smell like pi$$ and I still ride the blue line for 2 hours from MDW to ORD to save money over a cab ride or share van.
