Guys, I think we need to get the pay rates up and not worry about the insurance issue. Yeah it would be nice, but the company isn't going to just give it to us without wanting something back.
If you want insurance for the first three months, there is cobra and Obamacare. If we get the pay up to where it is should be, you'll get that money back 10 fold.
Let's keep our eyes on the prize, and the prize is MONEY and RETIREMENT!!!

Pay and retirement are great.... if you're working. When you're not, due to unforeseen circumstances, they're as useless and the paper it's written on.
Considering the current bargaining environment, we need to be focused on many sections. Get all you can in the good times.

Pretty sure Hawaiian's bennies kick in with minimal delay- processing time or whatever the equivalent HR jargon is. On their plan that's closest to a PPO, the cost for family medical is 2% of pay or $200.00, whichever is LESS, per month.
They are smaller & less profitable on a per airplane basis than NK is.

Immediately should be the goal for everyone.

Healthcare from day 1 is great, but not when you cant afford to even live.

Off topic, but everyone that works for NK knows the downer of listening to stories of NK customer service. If that ever gets you feeling down, check out the B6 presentation of the Jerry Springer show...

You are absolutely correct and there is no excuse for their first year pay vs. cost of living in HI.
On a separate, and only slightly related note, the cost of healthcare has the ability to significantly affect how much money you have left at the end of the month/year, etc. Spend an extra $400/month and it's like a $4800.00/yr pay cut. Have something serious happen and you may face bankruptcy if your coverage needs improvement.
I am hoping that we see improvements at all companies across the industry this round of negotiations. My post is not meant to put any particular company down.
