Okay, just wanted to make sure this is what we're talking about.

The one day of training (4 hours) to learn how to use the iPad is just a free four hours of pay. I'm quite sure the overwhelming majority of people know how to use an iPad (turn it on, select apps, type on it, etc.)

My question is, and I'm going to call a rep to clarify, but if the company could shove this down our throats, why Aren't they? The showed their true colors with the red/green, why all of a sudden do they want to "play nice"

If this could be implemented without a vote, why wouldn't they just do it?

Yeah, I think this is a very legitimate question. Are management trying to change and become more pro-labor? Are they just trying to soften us up?

Why if they can just make us do what they want, why offer anything at all?

That's my question as well. To me, this LOA isn't about IPads or distance learning. It's about productivity. We are agreeing to fly more days and do training during our personal time. The company can make us do this training in domicile or wherever, but the bottom line is that they want those extra days for productive flying not training. They can only get this with a yes vote. Are we getting fair value for selling them this productivity?

As an aside, who cares about 'industry leading distance learning'? Where did that rank in the contract survey? I bet it wasn't mentioned by anyone. I support our MEC. I am, however, concerned about the pro-LOA arguments I'm hearing. If this is how negotiations are heading, maybe it's time to update the Delta app.

There's no way I'm doing this on my days off. We get plenty of time on long layovers to knock out what modules or however they have it set up. To me working on home study at home is a mute point. Not to mention in the faq sheet it said you can download the it for offline study. I just want a fair deal and more time at home.

How you spend your time off is your business. The 'mute point' isn't mute for all of us. Regardless, you won't be at home more because of this - you'll be out flying, earning revenue for the company, instead of sitting in class somewhere.

I don't care what threats are being issued. I don't care what other airlines get because our pay scale is well below theirs. After the new contract is TA'd just watch the scare tactics come back. "This will be far better than what you will get if you vote no". Yawn, it is all lip service and I'm not scared. If the company could impose something they wouldn't threaten they would just impose it. So for the final time my vote is no. If people vote the opposite then that is their business. Lets vote and see if this gets ratified or shot down.

Reading the JL question and answer that was posted. The first question was one that all of us have asked, "why is the iPad protocol LOA combined with the distance learning"

He doesn't know and said "that's a good question, I'll find out".

How the heck did anyone in the MEC not think to ask this very basic question when the NC presented the LOA? This is a basic question that even us knuckleheads on a forum keep asking. How?!

Reminds me of a scene from Casino when Sam Rothstein is confronting his casino slots manager when consecutive large jackpots were hit in a row....

"Listen, if you didn't know you're being scammed, you're too frickin' dumb to keep this job. If you did know, you were in on it. Either way, you're out. Get out! Go on. Let's go."

What will the company gain by requiring our physical presence at our domicile for training, other than a scare tactic for leverage?

Isn't it speculative to predict what may, or may not, be forced upon us, if we vote NO?

Do we want to make the point that financial gains should be partially shared?

What are we gaining with a YES vote / losing with a NO vote?

Could we counter offer and meet somewhere between current and proposed rules?
