Not saying it is a bad place to be at all, it is actually a good place with good people. But when you compare what is being negotiated and what other airlines are getting, it starts to have diminishing returns by staying and working here unless we are compensated competitively with our peers. You all are smart, run the numbers in retirement alone and look at the difference. Many of you that where insulted are in your early 30's. Keep in mind that you need anywhere from $300k-$1,000,000 at retirement just for healthcare issues. After that you are going to need your retirement money to live off of. A 9% match is going to be a struggle to get you there.
When I jump seat offline and other pilots cringe about Spirit and pay rates, I don't get all upset like many on here do about being "insulted" I sit and completely agree with them it needs a lot of work to bring us up to industry standards. With what I have been hearing, we are still going to be discounted. Now do we suck it up to get a contract right away or do we fight for three to five years for better pay and benefits and give up those years of increased compensation?
You'll see a change in the retirement here. Everyone has their own reasons for where they want to work and what's best for their family but purely chasing pay rates around the industry historically doesn't work as good as it seems on paper. There will be good money to be made here and depending on your seniority, the flexibility in your schedule that goes along with it. Good luck if/when you leave

Why does everyone assume you have to give up work rules to get pay and retirement? Red and green is the main work rule that allows you this "flexibility" everyone talks about. That's not going anywhere. 4 days off? Not going anywhere. Outside of that what is it? Transition conflict? They are already eliminating much of that by trying to give away 29/7. Also the transition language is getting less and less useful as planing gets more savy at putting trips on top of what you drop in the conflict.

Besides red/green and 4 days off what are these amazing work rules everyone speaks of because those aren't going away but do you think you should be making half of what your peers make to have them?

Just taking a quick look at the United, they're all whining about their extension too, so I doubt anyone is going to be happy with anything. Pay rates to jetblue, still a retirement match, AND getting rid of transition conflict, management must be breaking out be champagne as we speak. BB and Bendo are licking their chops with how little this new contract is going to cost them! And we haven't heard of any improvements to healthcare, LTD, or scope. Heck maybe their just logging us up for jetblue pay rates for the big jetblue merger like someone posted earlier.

Amen. In fact, chasing much of ANYTHING around this industry is a pretty iffy proposition, at least in my experience...

Um, yeah, did you see his language? 2 Spirit pilots giving their honest opinions about Spirit sucks (in their opinion) and he unleashed f bombs on them.

So much for free speech? Do tell which one of your inalienable rights were violated on a privately-operated forum?

TOS exist for a reason. Either follow them or get banned.

Wow! That dude always had good input on here. Some idiot rideanddrive comes on here spouting how much it sucks and joeymeatballs tells him to F off and gets banned for it. That's crap! Hopefully he comes back under a new name.

The F bomb isn't even offensive anymore. Anyone offended by that needs to put on their big boy pants and get the sand out of their vag.
