You are correct, it is 8 and not 17. I was typing from memory and had too many numbers in my head. The 400 hours of lost flying came from our scheduling committee and was not calculated by me.

And DFW had 1 new vacancy this last bid, this doesn't include backfills. So it's growing, just at a snail's pace
Doesn't make sense to have any vacancies for a base that will be downsizing and displacing.
DFW will clearly "grow" at a much slower pace than other bases. Mid level FOs in DFW probably shouldn't be buying a house in DFW and thinking you'll hold DFW CA within a few months of getting Vegas for upgrade, like it is now. IMO

This is and always will be a little B.S. airline. Everything that we do will be, and Bob is right, low tier to everyone else except probably Allegiant. I expect jetBlue +5% or so on the numbers with a compromise on transition. But NK will never lead the pack and that's OK. We aren't Delta, American, or United. And most of our pilots couldn't get hired at those three and Miramar knows that. There are advantages here that suit some people and right now it does me. But I won't commute for this 'let's drive to Long Beach, the Galleria, and Livonia to save a buck airline' if they close DFW. I'll put my stuff out, as everyone should, and if I get a better offer I'll take it.
I'm not married to NK and it doesn't define who I am. I fly for money and have to balance that against time at home and QOL at both home and on the road. The second another outfit tips the scale I'm gone. Simple as that.

No, it isn't growing. DFW has fluctuated from 99 to 106 FO's for the last year. 1 vacancy is well within the 'margin of error'. But, none of the other bases are growing as well that I watch (ORD and LAS, my numbers for DTW and ACY don't go back as far) but FLL is growing by leaps and bounds. FLL added 17 FO's (this is where I mistakenly got the 17 number for DFW) from July to August. Why we're adding so much out of FLL is outside of my scope.

I doubt there are many here at Spirit that are "defined" by this airline and flying for money and QOL isn't unique to just yourself.
You seemed to hate this airline before you even applied here, so I cant imagine you enjoying it more if youre still sitting right seat in 4 years. Wish you luck in finding something that makes you happy.

Pretty sure the Galleria area is one of the best parts of Houston (the other being that place with the sign that reads "Now Leaving Houston") and Long Beach? Srsly? Because staying a block from the beach is bad?
You perhaps prefer Compton?
Livonia? Maaaaaaaybe, but the hotel is comfortable and the area is safe, so maybe, maybe not you have an argument there.
Look, I hate sitting in the car for 45 minutes to get to downtown Denver as well, but guess who else stays at our hotels here? United.
I don't like staying in Rosemont in Chicago; you gonna complain if United picks you up and then spend 45 minutes to get to downtown for your new hotel?
GMAFB.
We stay in some incredibly nice hotels in some surprisingly nice upscale areas, and you're bicthing about the drive? How do you think THAT will improve when (if) you get hired on at a Legacy?

The best pilots that I have flown with, in my career, are with Spirit. Both in the left and right seats. I have been on the jump seat plenty of times with the big three to know that those pilots are not any better than ours.
We all have our reasons for staying, but at any given moment we all could decide to put our stuff in and get the call. I will speak out anytime I hear anyone say Spirit Pilots are not as "gifted" as another pilot group.
We deserve equal pay for equal work!

You know you've been in this game a tad too long when you walk into a hotel, and the front desk clerk says "Hey, you had a different uniform last time!"

Supposedly Spirit has big plans to expand and grow well beyond 2021 (hence looking at C-300s). You can't expand without pilots. We are the commodity and, in time, we will have to be well compensated to retain and attract pilots in order to grow. I'd imagine an Allegiant-like pay scale plus more. The first LCC to boost pay will have first dibs on the regional FOs (since most Allegiant, Frontier, JetBlue, and Spirit new-hires are Regional FOs). If they make this place attractive to have them STAY, then I don't see why Spirit can't become the next SWA @500 planes and 5000 pilots in 15-20 years (that might include a merger down the road :/)
