Spirit of NKS, Part II

Just flew with a trip with a DTW F/O. Nice guy but when I asked him why he was wearing the company lanyard He said he wore the green one for a few trips but when he recently was assigned an out of base pairing the captain gave him a earful for wearing it about how it sends the wrong message. Are we seriously kidding? The MEC asked one small show of support for negotiations and unity and we still have pilots that think they know better?
You're a smart guy, Ralph. Im betting you were able to convince that FO how moronic that CA is and why its important for us to wear it.
Some of my favorite excuses I have heard when asking why they wont wear it:
-"I dont like the color"
-"We look stupid because it says SPA pilots"
-"It doesnt have a release in the back, dont want it to get stuck in a bag loader"
-"It makes us look bad" (code for I dont want pax to think I dont make as much money as I want them to think I do)
-"I send a stronger message by not picking up open time" (from this forum)
....and my favorite....
-"Don't want to make waves with management"

I've had two passengers say they liked my lanyard.

I've never had one CA or FO ask me why i'm not wearing the green lanyard, but I would just tell them that, "I have my own personal reasons"

Arm rest should be D-4 area. Who left it at K-9?

This re-enforces my beliefs that pilots are almost impossible to lead. The MEC has asked a very simple thing, to wear this specific lanyard in show of our unity, and yet individuals are not complying for the multitude of reasons listed. I sympathize with your story but I know you can think outside the box and figure out how to make it work. Put your Dads lanyard on the inside of your work shirt, put it on the top of your bag so you see it, whatever. I know you can figure it out.
I hate lanyards. I really hate lime green lanyards.
Everyone should put their personal feelings behind and wear the stupid lanyard. its just temporary. We derive all our power from the group, not the individual. Those who don't wear the lanyard show that they don't understand this concept.

Well, I wasn't going to get personal about it, but since you're curious and quoted my post, I'll explain. My current lanyard use to belong to my dad who passed away. It's my own personal reason for wearing it, however some people may not understand. You're more than welcome to offer me one of those green lanyard but I will politely decline.
I've never had one CA or FO ask me why i'm not wearing the green lanyard, but I would just tell them that, "I have my own personal reasons"

Lonestar is correct. It's sad at this point. Guys can't even wear a lanyard for a multitude of reasons.
