This isn't driving up pay. It is a hiring bonus that I'm sure has many, many strings attached ($12k is paid at the beginning of year 2, $12k at the beginning of year 3)! Probably some repayment rules there too if one leaves before 2 or 3 years.
Endeavor is the one airline so far that has pushed pilot pay up to the next level, and zero strings attached to their $10k hiring bonus.

Not quite air wisky money but a healthy bonus nonetheless. Gojet has their new flow to spirit, haven't seen much coming from compass as far as attracting newhires, but good for tsa. At least one of the trans states holdings airlines is driving up pilot pay.

This is really shameful and desperate! Per Diem is not compensation. I guarantee if you go apply for a home loan and you tell them you make $86K at TSA and show them that break down, they will show you how your compensation is actually about half that. What's next? Will they say the bottled water and stolen minis equate to another $10K / year of compensation. Don't be fooled and don't take my word for it. Check it out yourself.

Per diem is a form of compensation. As someone who just recently bought a new home, they want your pay stubs to see net take home pay over the previous two months to verify take-home pay and W2s to compare to previous years. All they REALLY care about is debt-to-income ratio. I don't agree with including it in advertisements especially if you don't calculate other airlines' compensation the same way, but you are wrong in that it isn't compensation.

According to the IRS it is not income. I wouldn't be surprised though if your lender used it to qualify you for a loan. Perhaps a younger buyer with less established credit, down payment, history will be more scrutinized in the area of income? The advertisement is somewhat deceiving because it stretches the truth. There's old math, new math, and now regional airline compensation math! Congrats on the new house!

What Breezy said. It isn't income, but it is compensation. Like the annual military total compensation form I get. It lists commissary benefits as compensation. Doesn't show up on my pay stub, but Uncle Sam considers it to be a form of compensation. And yes, it is somewhat deceitful to list that on your hiring website as your major attractant for new hires, but at least they do break it down by what each item is with disclosures listed below.

Actually, it is RECOMPENSATION for out of pocket expenses while required to work on the road. Hence the reason it isn't taxed; you've already paid taxes on your earnings that you spent on the road.
