Thanks MP...there is no good way to say ..."we really want you, in 6 months"...but I suppose the silver lining is that the pool will be FAR less than 153 pilots by the time any of us actually get a United training date...which should mean even less time on reserve...

Caveat, if we buy Spirit and have to merge guys who got passed on in their interviews or have apps waiting here.....I don't even want to think about this possibility. |

we have been posting for months about massive displacements all over the system due to the parking of the 747. When you displace from the most senior aircraft all the way down to zero training will be drastically affected. The training department is so backed up they can't run a vacancy bid. Without a vacancy bid there is no movement without movement there is no new hires.
Was told it's been taken into account and wouldn't affect anything...... |

You aren't even on the property yet and you've already been "Jeffed" over. Sorry Lurchi.

Welcome to the club. We're still trying to un-Jeff the airline, and will be for years.

This industry can and will change on a dime some day. May not be another "lost decade" but world events, economic difficulties, oil spikes, and/or mergers could easily cause another "lost few years" on everyones anticipated airline career at any or all of the majors. Until your on a seniority list with 20% behind you, plan accordingly for system shocks and be pleasantly surprised if all the rainbows and unicorn farts mgmt's been selling over the last few years come true. |

The last time the spam really hit the fan some of the folks hardest hit were those who were living paycheck-to-paycheck during the good times. They did not get furloughed but they were operating without a net and the result was predictable. |

Just received the mail from BK that training will not start until Feb and not hiring 1200 new pilots in 2018....anybody on the "inside" know what is causing the delay. doesn't look that good for United compared to the other Majors....Maybe I should have taken that Delta interview after all....

This is actually good airline industry training as everyone (at all the majors) have been getting a little complacent lately with all this unbridled hiring and optimistic prognostications.
Latest and greatest from BK says 450 for 2018. Look at how mnay retire in 2018. But.......but......we'll be hiring 100 a month indefinitely!!! Until your on a seniority list with 20% behind you |

"Undiedled" may be a stretch. The initial projection for 2017 was 800, with this fall/winter end of year SNAFU it won't even hit 500.
