no one is making career decisions based on us not having a contract. Everyone knows we will get one. I agree those people were going to most likely leave anyways, because unless all 9 of them went to Delta they went to an airline that is in the same situation we are.

We’re now in a world where more qualified applicants have multiple CJO’s and those people are going to go to the company that best fits their life, not the one that has a few dollars more in their present contract.

Why does WB tend to go junior in many new hire classes? I’m guessing I’m thinking about it all wrong because I’d assume WB would go senior but I’m obviously not wrapping my head around it the right way.

1) all a/c pay same first year
2) you are likely to be on reserve for two years (and United doesn’t have great reserve rules)

And 3… unless you already live near SFO or EWR, other locations tend to be more affordable,

It goes junior in new hire class but why is it vacant?

Do either of those statements apply to senior FO’s at UAL? No. Unless under 2 years is senior at UAL? So you’re saying anyone over two years can hold a WB line and it still goes vacant?

All FO seats are going junior & unfilled- though the WBs less so than the NBs. Part of this is the way the company has to create vacant positions to hire people- and we’re hiring a lot of people.

Why does WBFO go junior at all? At least some of it has to do with how international flying was affected by COVID. Some WB fleets ended up with deep reserve staffing; and certain layovers became much less desirable. (Locked in a hotel room for days.) I think once Asia fully recovers, some of this WBFO anomaly will correct itself.

The pace of growth & hiring has a role to play, too. In the past, it took so long to even have the opportunity to upgrade or move fleets that by the time your number came up, your mindset was already fully geared toward taking it. Now there are so many opportunities that it’s coming before people have even really considered it.
