The trips on the 737 vs the 320 are basically the same. Unless you are talking about locations like HI, SA & Caribbean, you wouldn't notice the difference. Generally, the benefit to the 737 is the fleet size relative to the 320 (although both are pretty small in SFO). SFO seems to have more 4-leg days on both fleets than anywhere else. Also a lot of redeyes on the west coast. If it were me, and I were commuting, I'd perhaps look elsewhere if the commute options were the same.
Maybe he should even consider jumping to the triple after year 1? Reserve long call out times are set to improve—up to 18 hrs out.

If commuting from Oregon, SFO makes sense in terms of minimizing commute time. SFO also has all of United fleets, short of the Dreamliner.

Yes, minimizing commute time to bad trips is what I was getting at. If you have the same frequency to another base with better trips, I’d do that. The extra amount of time you spend on an airplane is pretty negligible between DEN & LAX. I haven’t looked how those compare, though.

Does the 6 month timeline for nonrev benefits on UA apply to spouses/partners too? Are you saying all family standby benefits take 6 months to activate, or just enrolled friends/zed fares aren't available til 6 months? Specifically how soon after indoc can a spouse use UA nonrev benefits?
