Not sure how that answered your question—to be clear, blended rates do not apply to flying a specific aircraft. You get paid at the rate for the aircraft actually flown. Blended rates apply to DH, Reserve MPG, etc… times when you aren’t flying an aircraft.

That pretty much answered THIS question:

For that matter, if someone is a newly minted 737 pilot, can they break seat lock by going to the 321 since it is in a higher pay band?
in that blended pay categories do not mean you could use a move to the 321NEO even though the pay is higher) to allow you to break a seat lock on a 737 because the pay bands for both types are blended.

Blended is a specific term regarding pay rates—nothing to do with vacancies or bidding. There is no blended pay category, per se.

Simply put, NBFO-756FO-WBFO(777/787)-NBCA-756CA-WBCA. You can go up the sequence in any order to break a lock, but can’t go down with some minor exceptions that don’t really matter at the moment.

The longer definition is in 8-D-1-c.

and as for locks there is last time I checked a longer lock for same category in same base. So if you went 320FO to 737FO in same base I believe it’s 3 years.
not like that happens often

Default IAD Info

Two quick questions: what's the most junior WB and 756 FOs at IAD and how quickly can you get based out of IAD on any aircraft?
Thanks for the info!

From a big picture strategic level - any aircraft, very quickly; 756, quickly; 777/787 not long but not quick

From a tactical, new hire perspecitve - there's a lot of luck involved. They haven't run a big bid in several months and I suspect there's a lot of pent up demand to shuffle bases. That will take a few months to be satisfied when big bids resume. Time your class date right and you might get to dulles before you finish IOE. But get it "wrong" and it might drag for some months.

If you live in DC area, they have nearly hourly service from DCA to EWR that's rarely full because it's a slot-squatting operation.

If a new-hire who lives in the DC area would time it wrong and get a EWR commute out of training, how long should he/she plan on doing that commute before being able to bid to DC? Is 3-6 months a realistic window, or longer than that ?

Thx.

‘your estimate seems reasonable… I’d recommend your quickest chance for a move by vacancy bid to be 737, 320 and 756 in that order. Good news is if you are in the 737/320 their isnt a training freeze to bid the 756 (larger category) if it comes available after your initial new hire award if no vacancies are available on the 737/320 in DCA first… but usually they pop open.

Also if you live near DC or one of the metro lines, consider taking the AMTRAK. They run almost hourly. You can buy a ten trip ticket for roughly $650 ($65/trip). Nice, relaxing, stress free commute in about the same amount of time, 3 hours from Union St to Newark vs 2.5+ via plane.
