I was told at my meet and greet that anything beyond the 4th letter wasn’t looked at. So if your best letter was #5+ you actually hurt your chances a little.

Default New Hire Classes and Drops

From the EVP of Flight Op’s mouth (and Kirby), we will need to hire an additional 130+ pilots in addition to what we planned on hiring by April ‘19. Networking apparently added a whole bunch of hours that they weren’t planning on for next year.

Aren't you glad the company can't do that to you line guys? And yes i would be happy with whatever i got if i was in a UA new hire class.... life isn't fair
For irony go check the new vacancy post about guys crying about stagnation in ORD. They should
Be grateful to be based in ORD with United. Could be soooo many worse places to be stagnant than UAL in ORD!

Are you serious!!!

Any airplane that pays as well as the new and improved “guppy” is worth it.

Personally I think all the airplane bashing is getting a bit old.

I flew the “thunder guppy” and in the day it had the latest technology. PW JT8D engines, no autothrottles, max speed .78 Mach (normally started shaking before then and cruised at .73), two VORs and NDB, full analog ADI and HSI, Collins FD, non-color WX radar, 3 hour max range (need reserves) with people, really noisy cockpit, great eyebrow windows, CWS for those who couldn’t hand fly very well and an autopilot that would track an ILS, VOR and heading bug.

Of course Boeing upgraded it to the “yuppy guppy” and gave us flatten CFM engines, partial glass, an MCP with CATIIIA capability, and yet it didn’t go any faster.

This is great news considering that the previous plan was to essentially hire as many as possible prior to April. Somebody somewhere must have really sharpened their pencil.

The training center is gonna be a busy place.

United is hosting a by invite only job fair in Denver this coming week. Think 300 civilian fist day and 300 military next day. May also be a family/ friends of United day too but not sure how many for that.

Default IAH

With the current bids, how long before a new hire can expect to hold IAH? If I had a choice in training, which aircraft would get me based in Houston the quickest?

Thanks

Of course it all depends, as things change, but currently the 737 is the jr aircraft there. So that be quickest. That wasn’t the case a few years ago.
Timeframe, 5-8 months, give or take. Airbus, a couple years. You get a 757 in training now you’re talking 4 years plus. Or switching aircraft after seat lock to get in sooner.
