SEP 18 Class Drop

36 Total New hires

EWR 320 - 4 (went senior)

LAX 737 - 5

SFO 756 - 1
SFO 737 - 18
SFO 320 - 8 (8-Ball)

Welcome all new hires!

The aircraft and bases offered for the OCT 9th class will be coming from the bid that is currently open. As of right now it looks like:

DCA 756
EWR 737,756
LAX 737,756
SFO 737,320 there are a ton of unfilled slots in SFO so that will be heavily offered to new hires.

Good luck

I'm going to chime in with the same advice as others: seniority is everything, do not defer for any amount of money. I got fortunate enough to be hired just in the nick of time to avoid the first furlough after 9/11. Having full longevity made an enormous difference during the seniority list integration between UAL and CAL.

When I was hired, UAL was hiring at the same feverish pace they are now: the only limitation was how many pilots the training center could handle. Couple years or less to upgrade if you didn't mind sitting reserve on the Thunder Guppy in ORD. 10 to 12 years seniority got you left seat in a 767 in JFK. 15 to 18 years for left seat in the 777. UALPA had to negotiate a side letter with the company to say that new hires couldn't be placed in the right seat of the 747, because it was starting to look like it would come to that.

All of that sound familiar to today? Get the number. Even looking 5 years ahead is a long time in this business.

I delayed going into training about. It cost me 500 numbers but it was necessary at the time for my family.

Once hired, some people chase the money... some the QOL.

It's not a perfect world, and compromises often need to be made. Either decision often comes with a cost.

If you are not employed on Jan 1, you do not get profit sharing. Should be a pretty good check this time around.

Also, as mentioned, a class or two, the difference in being furloughed or not. Huge consequences. Don't wait.

He'll probably make almost $100k the first year (the hourly is $88). Even if profit sharing is only 10%, it's still $10k.

That's less than he drops at the Spearmint Rhino on a Saturday night.
