Delta replenishes each pilots sick bank to "240 hours" each June...
We get a paltry 60 hrs. each year.....The only real difference is that ours can roll over...though we also are required to burn our sick bank to zero before LTD can kick in..... Good luck if you find yourself behind that power curve.

I think the 90 day timer starts the day you become ill or injured.... You can receive LTD benefits at the 90 day point... up until then you rely on your sick bank. Which means you burn through about 240 hrs. of bank.... It may be an option to save some bank time if you have more than that available to you....I would be curious as to how many here have 240 or greater in their bank.
If you do burn to zero then you face the dilemma of returning from a long term illness with no sick bank to fall back on.

The 90 wait can be satisfied while burning sick leave.
If you have 1000 hours, you burn to 120 or less, your choice. When you have burned the sick leave you go straight to LTD benefit.
On the other extreme, you have no sick leave, you will go without pay for 90 days until LTD starts.
Vacation pay and the fact we get paid in arrears will partially mitigate that wait period.

You must burn sick leave to a minimum of 120 hours, or wait 90 days, whichever is longer.

I didn't have 50 hours when I went out. Saved what little I had for when I came back. Good to know.

I can see where a system comparable to Delta would have to include some way to compensate those with greater than 240 in their current bank....
While I would be very appreciative to get a 240 annual reset, I imagine someone with 1000 hours (what is that like 16 years without a sick call..?) might not feel the same.
