In need of advice

Living in base is great. Until you get bought by another airline, they close your base, and the next closest base is 2,200nm away. Commute transcon the rest of your life or uproot your whole family across the country and lose your family closeness/network/friends.
I think we can all agree that this job is great but the industry sucks many times and is unpredictable.

From EWR, those are all 2,200nm commutes. Or disrupt, uproot family and move.

Most of those are probably a result of the onset of something called 'deregulation' and an inability to adjust quick enough to the changes. While we are now 30 years into deregulation there are no guarantees in our industry. Never have been. One reason I have commuted is having been previously employed at a few of those listed.
Ditto.
Moved for one more airline (not listed)….16 years later they folded up too.
Life goes on though and at least it has been an interesting ride.

So he was 9 when 9-11 happened

That means you got on at 25!? Maybe even 24....?! Congrats on that....intern?
Have you looked at what your projected seniority will be with United when you retire? I’m guessing sub 20 for multiple years. You’ll never have the career potential at swa that being hired that young at UAL offers. I’d tell you to go to swa, but you leaving doesn’t move me up a number.

I change my opinion too. Getting on that young is like hitting the lottery. Nobody knows where the industry will be in 30 years but you have the potential to be widebody left seat for a majority of your flying years. Whoever helped you get on that young deserves a nice bottle of something hard to find. Stay healthy and enjoy the ride.
