Who's butt hurt or spooling up? It was a simple question. The only people that I see spooled up are the people who take offense to someone who isn't completely enamored by UA. I just find it humorous that some guys here let what aircraft they fly define them. Something about living to work vs. working to live springs to mind. Personally I prefer the money, days off and QOL I have opposed to the friends I know who were hired at UA in the same timeframe. As someone earlier stated, it's all subjective and YMMV. Best of luck to you guys over there at UA.

I would rather go out at 65 flying 6 legs a month rather than 3-4 legs a day for 15 days.

You clearly didn’t read the thread.....first 2 pages are telling this guy to go to SW, hardly UA fanboy talk. Once we found out this guy was 25 when he was hired our opinions changed. I don’t care if you are at DL, AA, UA, FX, UPS you would be crazy to lave a 40 year career with WB CA for 20 years and probably fairly senior for 10 of those. The earning potential and the quality of life this pilot will have is incredible.

True, I'll admit I didn't read the whole thread. Once again, your final statement is subjective and your opinion, which is rightfully yours. Only he/she can answer the question of whether living in FL is more important than moving to a UA base to chase the coveted wide body. Being that young, he/she is bound to make bank at either company, so why commute? That's all I was trying to say.

Southwest is a great airline with great people and anyone would be lucky to have a job there.....but please, do not come on here and say it’s not more attractive to fly 9 days a month at 400K a year on a 777 rather than 15+ days in a 737 hopping around the country. Don’t like the time change? Bid 4 day domestic trips on the triple and work 12 days instead of 9, flying one leg a day. Folks are happy at SWA and are making great money. No doubt about it. But you can’t deny it’s a huge plus to be able to constantly do different types of flying throughout ones career.
Get bored of RJ type flying? Do transcons. Bored of that? Do Hawaii. Done with that? Do Europe. Getting old? Fly to Asia. Too long? Back to domestic. It can make a long career much more enjoyable. Just some food for thought. I think we can all agree commuting sucks though.
Being so young, ask yourself this question: are guys leaving Southwest to go to United? Are guys leaving United to go to Southwest? In the end, everyone has a different situation. You have to do what’s best for you. Best of luck.

This thread has gone off the rails. 25-year-old dude, single, considering ****ting on a UA seniority number to go to SWA...you may be too stupid to work as an airline pilot.

Clearly, I have a very biased opinion but having done a mess of both types of flying, and having a few buds at SWA who bounced around a bit before getting hired there and who don't drink the cool aid, there's no way I'd leave UA for SW.
ESPECIALLY if you're already off probation. I know of a guy who was issued his walking papers on his last leg of IOE at SWA. While an admittedly extraordinary occurrence, this would certainly qualify as a jumbo sack feces. Might even make you spin the cylinder.
Tanqueray Martini's up. Dirty. Several. Please excuse my linguistic and grammatical faux pas.
PS. I think the body clock thing, while real, is overblown as I did a TON of redeyes on the Bus. Getting paid (WB hourly rate) while I nap, horizontal, in a pitch black coffin is prettttttty sweeeet.

Dude, it’s not about the size of the plane. It’s about not having to be on the road over 2 weeks a month flying 20+ legs a trip in a 737 (for almost 40 YEARS) to maybe make close to the same money. We have plenty of single leg multi day domestic trips on the triple if flying to other side of the world isn’t your thing. Let me say again. We are not saying Southwest is a bad gig. Just comparing 2 very long career options for a guy in his 20s.
