Just remember that for the next merger, when a 5 year JB, Alaska, Spirit , Allegiant Captain gets merged with a now 20 year United Captain. We were in a great position a year ago to acquire one of these airlines and do very well in a seniority integration because of longevity and the number of wide and mid-body Captains up against the narrowbody airlines out there. Now it would be a bloodbath. Lets hope United doesn’t buy anybody.
I thought you said JB would get wiped out by network carriers in the next downturn and to leave JB (even as an airbus captain) ASAP, now you are saying JB pilots would do well against UAL pilots in an SLI...because of a downturn? That’s an interesting pivot.

JB is not out of the woods, but the last time United shrunk and furloughed pilots we got trashed in the merger. A merger with JB now would be a huge windfall for anyone at JB, unless we got the American/US Air deal, with 85% weighting on longevity. Over 7,000 pilots at United have more longevity than the #1 JB pilot. Strictly from a status and category standpoint, United just got rid of 1,500 status and category pilots.

i seriously doubt that UAL has ANY appetite for the costs and integration issues associated with buying another airline. Especially now. This thread exists because we all have too much time on our hands.

Not any chance, really. But I was pointing out that the short-term implication of a big change can have a lasting effect since they snapshot the number of jobs when the merger closes.

Why not start your own airline? Get 10-20 solid United guys together, leverage the equity on your houses, buy 1-2 planes and start a part 121 operation. I’m not waiting for someone to control my future. Already started my small business.
