About 10 years ago, we had this program whereby a pilot could voluntarily have the pay for his trip designated to credit the sick bank of another pilot who found himself in an unfortunate circumstance. Don’t know why it went away. I used it once.
Now if you wanted to volunteer your trip pay to a gate agent or flight attendant, I’d be all for it. In fact, don’t we still have the WE CARE fund? That helps other employees with financial difficulties.

I've always try to give and help those less fortunate even with my regular pay. If there were premium pay trips and I could funnel some of that to those in need - I wouldn't hesitate.
And no I'm not saying that's for you or others to feel or do the same but I know what it's like to be on the other side. The We Care Fund sounds like it a great idea to help others who may be in need.

I see what your saying on the cargo flights. Still the higher the cost the lower the profit. I'm just suprised the company is even offering pp trips in this environment. Why not just use the Reserves.

Not whining,,, I just asked for thoughts (opinions) - not attacks or insults. Opinions are just that - not how it should be. Open dialogue - Agree to Disagree - Respect others. Things you obviously don't get.
A couple of premium pay 787 trips could possibly offset a job or two of a Gate Agent, a new hire FA, or a Line job. You see I think about other people and not just myself. So it could possibly be to the cost of another. Just not another pilot. It's not like we aren't well paid already.
Lastly, if the goal is to minimize cash burn - then minimize cash burn. But I'm only interested in two-way thoughtful, respectfull dialogue. So please excuse yourself from this one.
Thanks for the other thoughtful responses - I can see it from some of those points as well.

PP is the carrot, JRM was the stick. Using PP is a much better option for the pilot group.
The company won't use any PP money to save a single gate agent's job; it does not work like that here. They will just pocket the cash and return to assigning junior pilots on days off to force the flying.
If you remove the carrot, that leaves the stick. Be very careful what you ask for...

Go into Crew Companion and look at the reserve list for the 787......they are out no more left. I think some of these 787 cargo flights will be sent to the 777 assuming we have some that aren’t stored. At the moment it appears we have committed to more flying than we have pilots for.
So, you are left with 0 line, line holders who are willing to pickup.

My opinion is you’re beyond naive or management.

Thanks for educating me on the 787 process especially with the cargo flights - Good Stuff. I can definitely see the bigger picture with the premium pay and the Reserve System now. Discussion Board objective accomplished!

You're right - Being here less than five years, I don't have the "Us against Management" mentality. As far being naive, I just want as many people as possible to come out of this thing ok on the other side!

Many of the cargo trips are between 6-8 days. I even saw a 9 day trip. You can't use a reserve for that long. Many have HDO's or have a 1 in 7 day off issue. Particularly when they staff a 3rd augment with another Capt. They are staffing many of the cargo flights with an extra augment, further reducing the reserve availability.

Against your best effort, your union will continue to represent pilots and keep the profession worth coming back to.
