Yup.
Establish a CAP high enough that guys who want to work harder can earn more, but low enough to clip the wings of those really playing the game, while also removing the company's incentive to intentionally understaff and furlough additional pilots.
Essentially, the reward for picking up high credit PP trips is additional days off, not $$$, once the CAP is reached.

Agreed. I have no problem with people adjusting their schedules.. working smarter not harder. I'm just against the extreme high credit wh0res while pilots are on furlough.

And so what if he does? He's not the problem, dude. The company and it's weak-*** leadership is the problem. As others have mentioned, ALPA could fix this if they wanted to. They don't want to. We haven't made them. Fly the contract and mind your own business.
I'm going to end up moving from the front left quadrant of our cockpit to the right rear quadrant, on reserve before further displacements and likely ultimate furlough. As a commuter, you can bet I'll use APU to secure a commutable trip to avoid hotel expenses associated with a short call. Are your opinions going to pay for my hotel bills? Is reserve a choice? Are you going to put me on some list of people who need to be ostracized because my contractually legal behavior didn't conform to your personal opinion?
Again, mind your own damn business and I'll see you in the unemployment line.

I have no issues with the behavior you mentioned. My heartburn is with something different. But hey you do you.

The UPA as it stands today was a 3-way compromise between warring parties with VERY different agendas and a good as it is, there are countless items on my wish list of improvements.

And just to be clear, this is all mental masturbation at this point. The ship has sailed and I don't think any of us are expecting major improvements to the UPA anytime soon. But let's learn from this and remember WHY we would want something like this in the UPA when we come out the other side.

Keep in mind that PPU is a “get” for the pilot group. The company did not want to have to potentially pay double for someone to fly a trip, as well as possibly having to drop another trip and pay protect for that as well. Having just taken a substantial pay cut from WB left to WB right, I will certainly be utilizing PPU if the opportunity arises. The company has never recalled pilots because pilots refused to fly, and if all of a sudden pilots stopped doing PPU, they would take ALPA to court for violating the status quo.

Cancel the flight because pilots don't want to fly them?
Do you remember how the company handled those uncovered trips prior to agreeing that the use of PP made that unnecessary?
Answer: Without pilot concurrence.
The last recall was not delayed due to PP, it was due to outsourcing our flying to regionals and a merger. UAL used to UEX and CAL to fly UAL routes. Our pilots did not do that, management did.
Flying extra time should absolutely be avoided with even a single pilot on involuntary furlough, but be careful what we ask for going forward with covering undesirable open trips using PP.

I haven't heard of anyone getting involuntarily junior manned in ages. When's the last time it occurred?
