Since we don't know what the AIP/TA really says, we're just speculating, but it is my understanding from reading what others have said on this thread that the middle third will have their displacements cancelled. That, to me, means that they will no longer be NB FOs, but will go back to holding their NB CA seats (on Reserve). So, I'm not sure where you're coming from when you say they'll get CA pay while sitting FO.

Perhaps for YOU. Your argument fits you. It does not fit my buddy who is a junior Capt on the guppy and has a whole parcel of kids at University at the same time. Taking home 20-25 hours less pay per month will decimate him and his finances. He has one house. It's nice, but it's not a Captains palace. Two older cars. Zero ex-wives. No Vette, no ketch, no Cub. Just bills. He and most United pilots have been managing their households based upon expected hours per month. This will kick em right in the crotch.

So is it possible that a couple hundred of us, myself included, that would survive a furlough of 3900 pilots, yet would barely miss being included in the middle 1/3, would take a severe beating?
1. Displaced from 737
2. Since I believe I知 in the bottom third, I would be back to the right seat and
3. Half pay as a NB FO??
I would much prefer a 90 day notice and 6 months of Furlough pay, if true.

B*ll sh!t statement of the year goes to oldmako. I had to pay for college myself including the flying portion. Twice I had to take a break for a year because I ran out money and did not have other options, but stuck with it and finished it. I did not have the privilege and comfort of having Daddy helping me, so it helped me build character, grit, determination to finish what I started and never gave up. Look around, this is a pandemic and jobs around the 70K are practically nonexistent so I知 glad the union is looking for a solution for the whole group. We池e a big family so the petulant brats will throw their tantrums but for the majority it痴 the right thing to do. Hard dedicated professionals are about to lose an income to pay for their mortgage, food, insurance which are the minimum necessities and you worry about your buddy putting four kids in college because he wont work 120+ hours a month anymore! You guys were telling the potential furloughs to have a back up option, how about you take your own advices and look into back up options such as home loan of equity or tell your kids to get better grades for a scholarship, or may be they can become models for your future fishing pictures.
We should all take a big step back and understand and accept that we ALL exist in a seniority based system.

Most of your posts old Mako are sensible, but the sentiment expressed in the last one I would say is sort of the definition of entitlement:
Thinking that something you have/want is so normal a need/desire that you take it for granted. I would say paying for kids college falls in that category, nevermind the battles you値l face trying to get those kids to understand the value of something they now take for granted as well

Actually YOU win the BS post award. We have a SENIORITY based system and we each predict our personal risk based on those rules. The rules that we ALL agreed to. Frankly it's none of your, or my, business how any pilot spends his/her money. I'm still going to keep an open mind here, but there is NO existing precedent that furlough prevention must be paid for by ALL pilots. My default position is follow the current contract. Emotional arguments like yours are not helpful to the movement to 'spread the pain' to save jobs.
We should all take a big step back and understand and accept that we ALL exist in a seniority based system.

Everyone has a story that matches someone else story. Nobody sacrifice is greater than another person sacrifice, and that痴 what this group seems to forget. Yes we have a Seniority base system in reference to Aircraft/Schedule but the Union job is to represent everyone equally. The previous leadership always made sure that only the seniors were taking care of and I知 glad we are turning away from that page. You can scream all you want but at the end of the day we all get one vote, make it count.
