Just came back from some training. Rumor has it they are going to staff 2019 numbers for summer 2022. They said they were briefed that means potentially 1000 new hires starting fall 2021. Not sure if I buy it, but still was encouraging to hear.

What is the batting order for training when grandfather rights are involved? Do they send the grandfathered people to training first to get them back into their seats, or do they start with the senior pilots and go down the line like in most displacements?

It was hard to get 1000 people in a year... Can't imagine them doing that in half a year. Not staffed up enough on the pilot development side

There is no transparency in the training plan. One of the big issues IMO. I can hold my pre displacement seat but will not be bidding it because I don’t want to lose my current training slot next month (roughly same pay rate) and the associated hours I’ll get on OE. Bird in hand sort of thing. I need to get back to work, it’s time. If you figure it out the training plan before the bid closes tomorrow let me know!

Lots of unknowns. Will closed bases be reopened? If so, how big, how senior, and where to? Will WB flying even come back in the next year? How long will the LOA and pay protection last? Will there be another vacancy? If people bid vacancies and the flying is slow to recover, how deep will the G-line go?.......... I’d love another 10 months nonqual to think about it.

Good question. Also consider that there are other completed bids. The "Do/Over" process, the last vacancy and the last displacement, all generated training events. I'd like to believe they'd go in at least that order, but who knows. Another consideration, for the pay protected pilots, is there really any rush? I'm hoping the priority will be for those that can accomplish short courses that they get scheduled before they become longer courses.

AA hired 939 in 2018. That was the highest I have seen in recent years. Double that? Shakes head.

“potentially 1000 starting fall 2021”

Key word.
