Default CJO question...

Hi everybody.

I interviewed on 08/10
CJO 08/10 (OBAP)
Was offered a class date on 08/14. They offered 09/19 for a class date, but by the time I replied to the email, it was full! Accepted class date of 09/26.

My question is about when the job offer becomes a firm one, not a conditional one? I don't expect any issues with drug testing or background checks, but I was hoping to resign from my current job a little earlier to get some more time at home before I start the training. Would be nice to have the formal job offer in hand before I resign.

Anyone ahead in the process who can confirm whether there will be some kind of formal removal of the "conditional" bit before arriving in DEN?

CJOs stay CJOs pretty much until your probation period at an airline is over.

There will not be. Background checks are often not even fully completed until the 2nd week of Indoc, unfortunately, which is absurd to me. This is certainly an area that United has an opportunity to improve on.

Your most strategic move, IMO, would be to put your notice in at your current employer so it overlaps with Indoc at United, and drop or use sick calls to remove any trips that would otherwise interfere with your attendance. That doesn’t allow you any extra time at home, but it does protect you from being jobless.

I don’t math good, but if he was only delayed by a week, that’s only about 50 numbers, right?

The most it could be MATHEMATICALLY possible would be 100 if the individual was the oldest of the first class and the youngest of the second class. Highly unlikely.... if the reverse were true but it'd be just 1........I like your about 50 more than Shreks answer.

Would not recommend dual employment. That’s a great way to get terminated by both if discovered.

Might be a question to defer to HR personnel. I highly doubt termination would be considered if there is an active resignation notice on the Chief Pilot’s desk with no scheduled flying.

Im gonna have to agree like 1000%. Not having resigned that could be like real bad Kharma. Unless you have some kind of ELOA clause.....but thats a whole different employment status altogether.
