Default IRO Landing Currency - TA

So…I’m already not senior enough to hold the “Flying F.O.” Positions. Now I have to opt-in to give the more senior flying F.O. Add pay to let me have his landing and I get zero add pay? If I don’t opt in, both the captain and FO could be making add pay and will be upset at me before the brief even starts? Sounds like some solid ORM/CRM to start the 12-hour journey!

Am I reading that wrong?

Shouldn’t the incentive also be for the IRO to want to maintain their LDQ? How about 1 hour add pay for both??

To add to this, IF I AM READING IT CORRECTLY, if we don’t opt in to this scheme and then we lapse in landings - then we must go to landings on our day off for NO pay. AND the company can put us on NQ and not pay us for 60 days. So we really don’t have a choice but to opt in.

That’s what happens when the company writes the TA and hands it over to our “union” for a signature.

So they need to also have a provision that the flying seats on a home based flight can't be scheduled to be flown by out of base pilots!
Kind of hard for me to pick up a flying trip when all that's available to my BES is IRO seats since out of base pilots have all the flying spots on some of our routes. "But we have a shortage of pilots..." then pay premium for the IRO seat openings.
What a kick in the teeth!

Ha. So you want to be given the landing AND the add pay? It's the flying guys that have to give up their seniority awarded flying trip landing. You don't give up a thing. In fact, you gain by getting an aircraft landing versus trudging to TK every 3 months. This is genius.

Out of base p/u is not available until 1300 local base time. In base reserves can pick up at 1100 local base time. No?

I guarantee most flying pilots will be praying for an iro that needs a landing to grab the add pay. I personally have no problem going every 3 months as it’s a nice refresher and more beneficial then getting 3 landings in the real world. I most likely won’t want the landing and now I’m the bad guy before the trip even starts.

Captain’s authority remains the final word as to who occupies the first officers seat. I’ll take the guy who has the most currency and proficiency, you know, for safety.

This agreement is simply a carve out for TK - a hugely disproportionate pay raise for a minority of pilots. Landings proficiency? Let those highly paid sim monkeys fix it.

So if that route/pairing is being assigned out to another base in the monthly schedule, they still have p/u rights at 1100 and the original in base pilots can't p/u until 1300. Right?

Of the 12 flights on my BES trade board right now, 2 are flying spots. Today is a good day, it's usually 2 out of 20.
My base has routes being flown by out of base pilots. Oh but our base still gets to fill the IRO seat, happy day! If a base is short staffed, start with scheduling the IRO seat from out of base, with add pay, and work up from there.
Don't take our base's flying away from us and then penalize us for being NQ on landings...

Some enjoy going to TK for landings every 3 months. It can actually be a beneficial thing. And some people are using their seniority to bid the IRO slot. This is genius? Seriously. If one bids IRO seats then they are bidding their seniority so yes, one would be giving up something. It’s genius to be giving up a bid seat for nothing? Really…?
