During initial training does anyone know what happens if there is an emergency at home? For example my wife goes into labor or one of the kiddos gets hurt can i go home and get rolled into a different class and if so how long can we leave for?

Almost any major, and most regionals will accommodate you, happened to a friend of mine, they gave him time off and rolled him back.

You can also do FMLA, which is legally protected. Although I'd definitely try to work it out with the training Dept first, you don't want them annoyed with you obviously. They'll probably tell you just to drop FMLA anyway.

fmla is after 12 months (and some amount of hours worked).

I do know a guy who had an emergency, though, and he just got rolled back in sims. They were very accommodating.

Default E-mail to update hours

Does getting e-mail asking to "complete Flight Currency portion" of app mean anything? All my times are already in and the currency section was already filled out when my app was submitted. I was told at my meet and greet to go log some hours type of plane doesn't matter since I have plenty of multiengine turbine PIC time. I am military and have been in non-flying jobs for ~4 years. Just wondering if this is generic e-mail or a good sign. Thanks for the help.

Issue with the application formatting my hours.....there were times during flight training when I logged both dual received and PIC for flights and it looks like the app is counting both of these to get my total time... for example in one plane I had 3 PIC and 2 dual received but really only 3 total hours in the plane yet the app shows 5 total hours. This is causing the overall application to show me having 80ish more hours than I actually have. Any idea how to handle this?

The instructions on the app specifically say not to enter it that way. If it’s “dual” then you don’t also enter it as PIC. They only want the time that you were the final authority/signed for the aircraft. If you had an instructor with you and you were receiving dual, your logging of PIC is under the “sole manipulator” regulation only. So, just delete the PIC from any time you have also logged as dual and you should be golden.

Is there any average time from hitting apply and getting some kind of response back? I got my ATP in early April, hit submit on apps around 10 April and now have 3 interviews lined up for May at 2 legacies and 1 LCC but crickets from United. I even got a voicemail from United pilot hiring the last week of March making sure I knew my App was in draft mode (which was intentional since I was waiting to get my ATP complete).

There are too many variables to say when you would get the call. So much depends on your application and things like expos, CP M&Gs, etc. If United is your preferred carrier, I would set up a CP Meet & Greet through one of your friends here. It seems to have very good results.

Timeline for a call after applying?

When in doubt, go meet target airlines at job fairs. That usually results in positive responses within 6 months.

Friend of mine got a voicemail just like you. He submitted the app a few days after. Roughly two weeks after that, app went into "under review" status and was locked. That seems to be a good sign from what I've been told as it seems you've then got whatever it is they're looking for. You get an assessment invite anywhere from a few days to two weeks time after that happens. Once he took the assessment, 1-2 days after the interview invite was sent out.
