I started a thread on the UAL forum asking pilots what was holding them back from bidding NBCA and the resounding answer is QOL is terrible as a junior NBCA so the money difference needs to be enormous to make people at UAL jump from WBFO to NBCA. So far no one mentioned Reserve Rules.
Our reserve rules suck giant bags of turds. There's no possible way anyone can say otherwise. They need a major, major overhaul. This is a big reason for the MEC recalls. The new TA made reserve even worse. Tough to do, but they managed to do it. Thank God for the overwhelming "NO!" from the pilot group.

So, bottom line - more pay AND better work rules is what’s needed to fix this debacle.

I've mentioned reserve rules several times in more than one thread here. I'm at UAL and still on reserve (so much for "you'll only be on reserve for one month!").

I think the consensus based on your post and my anecdotal experience is that BOTH pay and reserve needs to improve drastically. I am a widebody FO by choice. I can upgrade on any NB in the system and 756 on the coasts. The pay difference is simply not enough for all the 💩 you have to deal with as a junior line holding CA on the 737. Even the trips at the top 20% suck! Imagine 80%ish or below.
So, bottom line - more pay AND better work rules is what’s needed to fix this debacle.

after 3 years as a captain back to WB first officer 787…. ( 777 FO before for 9 years )
quality of life is the reason and I was not on reserve on the NB..too many reassignments

Final award is out. 92 unfilled CAs. SK is going to have to address the poor QOWL and lack of pay increase for NBCA vs WBFO in the next TA if he really wants to grow this airline. Let’s hope our NC and MEC wake up. Between the leverage we have with training and the inability to get enough CAs in the places they want them, now is the time to make some gains.

I mean, I'd like to bid captain, since my years-to-go isn't measured in the multi-decades. But the thought of sitting under our reserve rules for 5-6 years, especially with NB scheduling, makes me throw up in my mouth.
